SOFTBALL SWEEPS PHILADELPHIA IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- The Molloy College softball team swept the Rams of Philadelphia University in non-conference action on April 19. The two victories improve the Lady Lions to 20-18, while the Rams fall to 12-21 on the season.
Sophomore Erin Rut (East Meadow, NY) knocked in her first run of the game in the second inning. She gave Molloy the 2-0 lead after she crossed the plate on a triple by junior Michelle Walsh (Bellerose, NY). The Rams lone run of the day came in the third inning of game one. Rut and Walsh each brought in their second run during the fourth inning and Molloy went ahead, 4-1. The Lady Lions extended their advtange to seven when freshmen Allie Sydor (Glen Cove, NY), Jennifer Kiernan (Sayville, NY) and Brittney Tartaro (Bayport, NY) each scored in the fifth inning. RBI singles by junior Amanda Havdolous (North Babylon, NY) and Tartaro added two more runs for Molloy in the sixth and the game was called due to the mercy rule. Havdoglous earned the 9-1 victory as she allowed four hits, one run, no walks, while striking out three.
Game two saw both teams remain off the scoreboard for the first three innings. A double to left center by Havdoglous allowed Kiernan to score and Molloy took the 1-0 edge. The Lady Lions went ahead by two runs when sophomore Shannon Skeggs (Massapequa, NY) tagged up on a sacrifirce fly by junior Nicole Losito (Ozone Park, NY) during the fifth inning. Junior Graziella Minnici (Commack, NY) knocked in the Lady Lions last run of the day as Molloy came away with the 3-0 victory. Junior Florence Williams (Tallahassee, FL) took the victory on the mound with five hits, no runs, two walks and three strikeouts.
Molloy will host Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday, April 20 for a 11:00 AM non-conference doubleheader.
