MOLLOY COLLEGE INKS FIVE PLAYERS DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Head softball coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke announced the signing of three players for the 2009 season, while head women's basketball coach, Tim O'Hagan inked one player for the 2008-09 season and head men's basketball coach, Charles Marquardt added one to his squad list. Joining the Lions as the class of 2012 are Carla Campagna (Floral Park, NY), Meghan Karpinski (Hicksville,NY), Allison Ryan (Seaford, NY), Molly Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) and Kevin Walsh (West Hempstead, NY).
Campagna is a first baseman for the Holy Trinity High School softball team. She was a member of the teams that were the Catholic League Champions and the New York Down State Catholic High School Champions in 2005 and 2007. "Carla played for me as a 14 year old when we were state champions," said Cassidy. "She provided key hits in the league final and state final games. I have watched her play over the last three years and I am excited that she will again be on my team. In her spare time, Campagna is a member of the travel softball team, Sudden Impact.
Karpinski is a three sport athlete (softball, basketball and volleyball) at Bethpage High School. She is the starting shortstop for the softball team and earned All-County honors in 2007. In addition, Karpinski was a Scholar-Athlete in 2006 and 2007 for all three sports and was a 2007 Who's Who Among American High School Students. Cassidy on Karpinski, "Meghan is very athletic. Her versatility and strong arm will make her an asset in both the infield and outfield." Karpinski is also a member of the jazz band and the drum major for the marching band.
Ryan has a dual role for the Seaford High School softball team as she plays first base and is a left handed pitcher. "Allison's ability as a pitcher will allow her the opportunity to step in early as a freshman," said Cassidy. "Adding a lefty to our staff is a bonus and a new look for us." Ryan was an All-Conference selection in 2007 and has been a Scholar-Athlete since 2005. In addition, Ryan is a member of the Long Island Riptide softball team.
Dreyer, a 6-0 forward, attends Archbishop Molloy High School where she is a member of the basketball, cross country and track and field teams. She is currently the captain of her basketball team and last season, she was an All-Queens Honorable Mention. O'Hagan on Molly, "Molly's ability to play multiple positions will greatly improve our team's goal of winning a championship". She received the Outstanding Academic Achievement award in 2003-04 and is a member of the National Honor Society.
The 6-5 Walsh attends West Hempstead High School and is a member of the basketball team. He has received All-Conference and All-County honors. "Kevin is a strong perimeter player who can shoot and drive, while being a very fundamentally sound player," said Marquardt. "We look forward to Kevin contributing to our program in the future."
