INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 18, 2010) – For
the second-consecutive week, the Molloy College women’s
basketball team remained in the seventh slot on the NCAA Division
II East Region Poll, which was publicized on Wednesday night by the
regional committee. The Lions split two decisions last week, which
put them at an overall record of 14-7, which is also their
in-region mark. The tally did not factor in Wednesday’s 50-46
win against University of Bridgeport.
Franklin Pierce University, which entered play last night at a
flawless record of 23-0, was handed its first loss of the season by
Northeast-10 Conference opponent Merrimack College, 71-64. Holy
Family University is positioned second in the region. The Tigers
are the only other squad to have just one flaw on their ledger
(21-1). Their most recent victory came on Saturday in an 83-62 rout
of Post University in Philadelphia, Pa. Bentley University caps off
the Top-3. The Falcons are 18-7 overall and coming off of a loss
last night to University of Massachusetts – Lowell.
In a mirror image of last week’s poll, Pace University
stayed at fourth. The Setters have been victorious in 10 of their
11 games, which includes a key 72-57 win versus Le Moyne College on
Wednesday. Stonehill College (18-8) sits in the No. 5 hole. After
hitting a four-game losing skid, the Skyhawks have answered with
home decisions over St. Michael’s College (56-39) and St.
Anselm College (47-34). Four East Coast Conference teams captured
the six through nine slots. It begins with University of Bridgeport
in sixth.
Despite the defeat to Molloy last night, the Purple Knights are
16-7 overall. Following the Lions is C.W. Post in the eighth spot.
Since losing two in a row, the Pioneers have bounced back with a
pair of victories to get back to a .750 winning percentage (18-6).
Dowling College sits at ninth, while the College of Saint Rose
returns to the tally after a one-week absence. The Golden Lions are
winners of three in a row, and five of their last six, while the
Golden Knights have done the same to improve to 14-11 on the
campaign.
Head Coach Tim O’Hagan and his squad return to the court
this Saturday when Molloy does battle with C.W. Post in another
crucial ECC match-up. The opening tip is slated for 1:30 p.m.
