SOFTBALL EARNS NFCA EAST REGION COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR NOD
STARKVILLE, Miss. After guiding the Molloy College softball team to its first-ever NCAA Division II East Region crown, and a No. 10 national ranking, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association selected Susan Cassidy-Lyke and her assistants on Thursday afternoon as the 2010 East Region Coaching Staff of the Year. In the process, the Lions registered a program-best mark of 43-21 on the campaign, and landed four of its players on the NFCA All-East Region squad two of which got first-team honors.

SOFTBALL SLOTTED 10TH IN FINAL NFCA TOP-25 POLL
STARKVILLE, Miss. - On Thursday, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its final Top-25 poll of the 2010 season, and the Molloy College softball team received its highest ranking ever as the Lions were positioned 10th in the census. They had only earned one other spot on the tally this year, which was at No. 20 on March 31. Molloy closed out the campaign with a program-best mark of 43-21 overall and an NCAA Division II East Region Championship - the first in school history.

SOFTBALL DROPS 4-0 DECISION TO NO. 1 NORTH GEORGIA IN WORLD SERIES OPENER
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. Freshman pitcher Megan Butterworth struck out a game-high eight batters on Thursday afternoon, but it wasnt enough as the Molloy College softball team fell by a final score of 4-0 to top-ranked North Georgia College and State University in the first round of the NCAA Division II College World Series at Heritage Park in St. Joseph, Mo. The Lions will now face the loser of the 2 p.m. game between Bloomsburg University and Valdosta State University on Saturday in an elimination game at noon.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. Battling to a scoreless tie with two out and a runner on second base in the latter of the eighth inning, freshman third baseman Haley Calderwood ripped a single up the middle to plate senior outfielder Erin Rut. As a result, the No. 6 seed Molloy College softball team defeated No. 1 seed and 10th-ranked University of New Haven, 1-0, in walk-off fashion at the 2010 NCAA Division II East Super Regional Championship at UNH Field in West Haven, Conn. The Lions, who were on the brink of elimination coming into todays game, secured a bid to the NCAA Division II College World Series.

With the decision, the Lions forced a deciding rubber match with the Chargers, which is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch.

Leading 5-2 after three innings of play, the sixth-seeded Molloy College softball team gave up four unanswered runs over the games final stretch, and suffered a 6-5 defeat at the hands of top-seeded and 10th-ranked University of New Haven in the opening contest of the 2010 NCAA Division II East Super Regional at UNH Field in West Haven, Conn. With the loss, the Lions dropped to an overall mark of 41-19. As for the Chargers, they improved to 42-6 on the 2010 campaign.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - On Monday afternoon, the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced the field of 64 teams for its Division II Softball Championship, and Molloy College found itself seeded sixth in the East Region. The Lions will do battle with third seed, and East Coast Conference opponent C.W. Post in the first round on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. The four-team regional will be hosted by Dowling College at Golden Lions' Field in Brookhaven, N.Y.

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. - Needing just one win to capture its first-ever East Coast Conference title, the third-seeded Molloy College softball squad lost both contests of a twinbill in the league championship to No. 2 seded Dowling College, 1-0 and 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at Golden Lions' Field in Brookhaven, N.Y. With the losses, Molloy capped ECC Tournament play at 38-18 overall. As for Dowling, it won its first ECC crown, and improved to 42-15 on the year.

SOFTBALL BREAKS PROGRAM WIN RECORD IN 5-0, 9-0 SWEEP OF STAC
SPARKILL, N.Y. On Friday, the Molloy College softball team scored all 14 of its runs during the doubleheader in the first two innings of each game to down St. Thomas Aquinas College by scores of 5-0 and 9-0 in its 2010 regular-season finale at the STAC Softball Complex in Sparkill, N.Y. As a result, the Lions improved to 36-16 overall and 19-9 in East Coast Conference action. They also set a new a single-season record for victories as Molloy surpassed the 1995 squad, which went 35-13. The Spartans fell to 7-36 and 3-23 in the ECC.

On Wednesday, the Molloy College softball team fell by scores of 8-0 and 8-7 to New York Institute of Technology in its final regular-season game on the road at the Softball Complex in Old Westbury, N.Y. Despite the losses, sophomore shortstop Josette Cavallaro batted a combined .571 with a homer, four RBI and two runs scored. As a result, the Lions dropped to an overall record of 34-16 and an East Coast Conference mark of 17-9. They have also gone down in their last three games.

CALDERWOOD GETS ECC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS FOR THIRD TIME
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. On Tuesday afternoon, freshman third baseman Haley Calderwood was recognized for her outstanding play last week as the East Coast Conference honored her with Rookie of the Week kudos for the league-leading third time this season. In the six-game stint, Calderwood batted .476 with a team-best three home runs and 14 RBI. She also registered an impressive .952 slugging and .500 on-base percentage, while scoring six runs in the process.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. For the third-consecutive week, the Molloy College softball team held its ground at fourth in the NCAA Division II East Region ledger, which was released on Thursday morning. Prior to Tuesdays sweep of Queens College, the Lions were coming off of a 4-0 week, which included key wins against East Coast Conference foes University of Bridgeport and New York Institute of Technology. At this point, they are 31-11 overall with a mark of 26-8 in regional competition.

For the duo, this is Campagnas first accolade from the league this year. As for Calderwood, she has been chosen as the top rookie in the conference for the second time in three weeks.

As a result, the Lions are now at 29-11 overall and 12-4 against East Coast Conference foes. They have also won four straight. Meanwhile, the Purple Knights fell to 1-34 and 1-16 in the league.

Post remained first and second in the poll, respectively, while Dowling College jumped ahead two places this week to the No. 3 position.

With the wins, the Lions went to 27-11 overall and 10-4 in the East Coast Conference. As for the Bears, they dropped to 18-17 and 6-6 against league opposition.

FREY SELECTED AS ECC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. Freshman outfielder Jeana Frey was dubbed as the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week on Tuesday for her efforts in the past 12 contests. In that stretch, she recorded a .513 batting average with eight RBI. She also produced a .548 on-base and .538 slugging percentage. Moreover, this is the second-straight week that the Lions have had the top freshman in the league.

The Lions were beat 2-1 in the opener, and 6-4 in the second contest. With the defeats, Molloy is now at an overall record of 25-11 on the 2010 season. As for the Rams, they returned to a .500 winning percentage with a mark of 13-13. Philadelphia has also won three in a row, and four of its last seven.

SOFTBALL RANKED 20TH IN LATEST NFCA TOP-25 POLL
STARKVILLE, Miss. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association put out its Top-25 ledger on Wednesday morning, and the Molloy College softball team was slotted 20th on the poll. This marks the first time in program history that the Lions have ever achieved a national ranking. Last weekend, Molloy earned two victories in a doubleheader against Southern New Hampshire University to improve to 14-4 on the season.

The Molloy College softball team had a successful day with the bat as it hit a combined .377 average in the twinbill on Sunday, which eventually resulted in a sweep of Southern New Hampshire University by decisions of 6-3 and 5-3 at the New York Institute of Technology Softball Complex in Old Westbury, N.Y. Senior catcher Tiffany DAlessandro earned three RBI in the showing, while sophomore shortstop Meghan Karpinski contributed a pair of ribbies.

SOFTBALL CLAIMS VOTES IN RECENT NFCA TOP-25 TALLY
STARKVILLE, Miss. On Wednesday morning, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its weekly Top-25 softball poll, and Molloy College grabbed five votes in the ledger. The Lions are presently 12-4 on the season, and winners of their last four contests.

BUTTERWORTH SELECTED AS ECC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. One week since being dubbed its top rookie, the East Coast Conference on Monday evening announced freshman lefty/outfielder Megan Butterworth as its pitcher of the week. In the six times she took the circle, Butterworth was 5-0 with a 0.46 earned run average. She also had 40 strikeouts, while yielding just four walks.

BUTTERWORTHS PITCHING STIFLES AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL IN 6-1, 8-6 SWEEP FOR SOFTBALL
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. On Sunday, freshman pitcher Megan Butterworth hurled a combined seven innings of six-hit, six-strikeout, one-run ball as the Molloy College softball team upended American International College in a non-conference twinbill at the C.W. Post Softball Complex in Brookville, N.Y. The Lions earned a 6-1 win in the opener before rallying for an 8-6 win in the nightcap. With the victory, Molloy improved to 12-4 on the campaign. It has also won four in a row, and five of its last six.

CALDERWOOD AND SYDORS CLUTCH HITS POWER SOFTBALL TO SWEEP OF SAINT ANSELM; 5-1, 5-4
FLUSHING, N.Y. Freshman third baseman Haley Calderwood belted a grand slam in the opening game of a twinbill, while junior shortstop Alexandra Sydor posted the game-winning hit in the latter to propel the Molloy College softball team past Saint Anselm College, 5-1 and 5-4, at Knights Field on the campus of Queens College in Flushing, N.Y. As a result, the Lions improved to 10-4 on the season. They have also won three of their last four. The Hawks dropped to 7-5 overall on Saturday.

BUTTERWORTH HURLS NINE-INNING SHUTOUT AS SOFTBALL SPLITS AT SAINT LEO; 2-0, 1-0
SAINT LEO, Fla. Despite having a perfect game spoiled in the latter of the seventh frame, rookie right-hander Megan Butterworth pitched a nine-inning shutout, and notched 16 strikeouts as the Molloy College softball squad shut down Saint Leo University by a 2-0 final in the first match of a twinbill at University Field on Thursday in Saint Leo, Fla. The Lions were returned the favor in the latter by the hosts, 1-0. As a result, Molloy closes its trip to the Sunshine State with an overall mark of 8-4.

JANSENS STRONG OUTING LEADS SOFTBALL TO SPLIT WITH ST. THOMAS; 6-1, 3-2
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. During the first contest of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, freshman pitcher Kelley Jansen tossed a complete game one-hitter to power the Molloy College softball squad to a split with St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, Fla. She also accumulated six strikeouts as the Lions won the opener by a 6-1 count. The visitors then dropped a 3-2 decision in the nightcap. As a result, Molloy improved to 7-3 on the year. St. Thomas now owns an overall ledger of 1-15.

JANSEN AND BUTTERWORTH BRING HOME WEEKLY ECC SOFTBALL LAUD
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. The East Coast Conference put out its weekly awards on Monday, and freshmen Kelley Jansen and Megan Butterworth brought in pitcher and rookie of the week kudos, respectively. Last week, Jansen went 2-0 with a 1.24 earned run average. She also earned 21 strikeouts, while holding hitters to a .158 batting average against. As for Butterworth, she tossed a no-hitter against Southern Connecticut State University in her first college start.

Junior second baseman Alexandra Sydor had the eventual game-winning RBI, while freshman and ECC Rookie of the Week Megan Butterworth threw her second shutout in the opener as the Molloy College softball team took one of two against Barry University on Tuesday at Buccaneer Field in Miami Shores, Fla. With the results, the Lions now sport an overall record of 6-2. As for the Barry, it went to 19-10 on the season.

In her first-ever collegiate start, freshman pitcher Megan Butterworth notched a complete game no-hitter in the opener of a twinbill against Southern Connecticut State University as the Molloy College softball team swept a season-opening tripleheader on Saturday afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. The Lions defeated the Owls, 2-0, in Game One, and 2-1 in the latter. They then proceeded to upend the Warriors of Merrimack College, 9-5, in the third contest of the day.

SOFTBALL TAKES TWO OF THREE ON SECOND DAY OF FLORIDA TRIP
CLERMONT, Fla. On Sunday, sophomore utility Meghan Karpinski swung a strong bat as she hit .400 with a home run and two runs scored to propel the Molloy College softball team to a 2-1 record on the afternoon at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. The Lions swept a doubleheader versus Franklin Pierce University, 3-2 and 2-1. Molloy then lost to University of Massachusetts Lowell by a decision of 12-6 in the nightcap. With the results, the Lions went to an overall record of 5-1.

SOFTBALL HELPS OUT AT LOCAL LINDENHURST CLINIC
LINDENHURST, N.Y. The Molloy College softball team assisted at a local clinic on Wednesday in Lindenhurst, N.Y. The Lions worked with girls between the ages of 7-13 over the course of two three-hour sessions on fielding, batting and mechanics. In addition, Molloy hosted a skills and pitching camp of its own last week on campus.

SOFTBALL PICKED FOURTH IN ECC PRESEASON LEDGER
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. The 2010 East Coast Conference preseason softball poll was issued by the league office on Friday, and Molloy College was selected fourth in the tally, totaling 38 points in the process. The Lions, who were 21-26 overall and 10-8 against ECC opposition in 2009, entered last years league tournament as the No. 5 seed. They upset second-seeded Adelphi University before falling to No. 1 seed Dowling College. C.W. Post was tabbed as the league favorite after winning the title a year ago.

SOFTBALL INKS SINAGRA AND ALEXANDER TO NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke of the Molloy College softball squad recently announced the signings of Nicolette Sinagra and Lauren Alexander to National Letters of Intent starting in the 2011 season. Sinagra was referred to as one of the best softball players in New York City that few have heard of by Five Boro Sports, while Alexander was dubbed as an All-County honoree following her junior campaign.

MOLLOY TEAMS MAKE STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER
WANTAGH, N.Y. The Molloy College baseball, softball and womens lacrosse teams participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer five-mile walk last Sunday at Jones Beach in Wantagh, N.Y. The American Cancer Society puts this event together annually to help for raising awareness and funds for a great cause. As for "Making Strides", the walk has described the amazing progress everyone is making to put an end to the severe disease.

SOFTBALL ANNOUNCES 2009 FALL EXHIBITION SCHEDULE
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. The Molloy College softball team recently publicized its 2009 fall exhibition schedule. Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke and the Lions will open up the pre-season with a tripleheader on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Dominican College when they square off against the host Chargers, University of Bridgeport, and St. Thomas Aquinas College.
