ADA NAMES ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNERS FOR DIVISION II
CLEVELAND, OHIO – Last week, the Athletic Directors’ Association announced its recipients of the 2008-09 Academic Achievement Award for Division II, and Molloy College had 29 of its student-athletes recognized out of a total of 4,020 across 115 institutions. In order to obtain this honor, the student-athlete had to achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better. They also needed to attend the institution for at least two years, and be a member of an intercollegiate team during his or her previous academic year.

SOFTBALL FALLS TO DOWLING IN ECC CHAMPIONSHIP, 5-2
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team had its season come to an end as the fifth-seeded Lions lost to the fourth-seeded Golden Lions of Dowling College in the East Coast Conference Tournament by a final product of 5-2 at the NYIT Sport Complex in Old Westbury, N.Y. With the defeat, the Lions wrapped up the year with an overall mark of 21-26. As for the Golden Lions, they improved their record to 33-17.

URBONT’S THREE-HIT SHUTOUT SENDS SOFTBALL TO 2-0 VICTORY VERSUS ADELPHI IN ECC TOURNEY
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Sophomore pitcher Lauren Urbont threw a gem on Friday afternoon as she hurled a complete game shutout to put the No. 5 seed Molloy College softball team past No. 2 seed Adelphi University by a 2-0 decision in the East Coast Conference Championship at the NYIT Sport Complex in Old Westbury, N.Y. With the win, the Lions ended a 10-year drought by getting their first triumph in post-season action since 1999.

CASSIDY-LYKE GETS ECC COACH OF THE YEAR NOD; TWO LIONS RECEIVE ALL-ECC RECOGNITION
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference announced its year-end award recipients for softball on Thursday afternoon, and Susan Cassidy-Lyke was picked as the coach of the year by her peers in the league. This marks her first-ever award for softball on the collegiate stage. Freshman third baseman Josette Cavallaro and junior catcher Tiffany D’Alessandro concurrently got All-ECC second- and third-team laud, respectively.

SOFTBALL LOSES TO NYIT IN FIRST ROUND OF ECC CHAMPIONSHIP, 5-0
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – On Wednesday, freshman third baseman Josette Cavallaro hit 1-for-3 at the plate, but it wasn't enough as the fifth-seeded Molloy College softball team fell to No. 4 seed New York Institute of Technology, 5-0, in the opening round of the double-elimination East Coast Conference Championship in Old Westbury, N.Y. With the defeat. the Lions went to an overall mark of 20-25. The Bears improved to 35-23-1 on the year.

CAVALLARO SNATCHES THIRD ECC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference publicized its week-end award winners on Monday, and freshman third baseman Josette Cavallaro received her third rookie of the week award from the league. She got her other two honors on Mar. 16 and Mar. 30. In the past week, Cavallaro hit .474 with one homer and three RBI. She also notched 14 total bases and four runs scored, while posting a .545 on-base percentage.

SOFTBALL SECURES NO. 5 SEED IN ECC CHAMPIONSHIP; TO PLAY AT NYIT TOMORROW
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – On Tuesday morning, the East Coast Conference released the six-team field for its 2009 Softball Championship, and Molloy College earned the fifth seed. The Lions will face the No. 4 seed Bears of New York Institute of Technology in an opening round match-up on Wednesday in Old Westbury, N.Y. Action is scheduled to get started from the NYIT Softball Complex at 3 p.m.

SYDOR’S FOUR HITS HELP SOFTBALL CAP REGULAR SEASON WITH SPLIT AGAINST NYIT; 9-6, 7-3
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Sophomore shortstop/second baseman Alexandra Sydor pounded out four hits, while recording three runs and two RBI as Molloy took one of two in a twin bill with New York Institute of Technology. They fell in the opener, 9-6, and triumphed in the nightcap, 7-3, to finish up the regular season. The Lions ended the year with a 20-24 mark overall and a 10-8 mark in conference play.

SOFTBALL CLINCHES ECC TOURNAMENT BERTH WITH SWEEP OF BRIDGEPORT; 4-3, 9-4
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Freshman first baseman Carla Campagna totaled seven RBI in two games on Friday to propel the Molloy College softball team to its first East Coast Conference Tournament berth following a clean sweep of the University of Bridgeport by scores of 4-3 and 9-4 at Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Conn. This marks the first appearance in post-season play for the Lions in six seasons when they faced Dowling College and Adelphi University in 2003.

CAVALLARO’S HOT BAT LIFTS SOFTBALL TO UPSET OF NO. 14 C.W. POST; 5-4, 1-0
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Freshm¬an third baseman Josette Cavallaro was a solid 3-for-4 at the plate in the opener with a run on Thursday, while batting a solo bomb in the nightcap to lead the Molloy College softball team to a stunning twin bill sweep of 14th-ranked C.W. Post by decisions of 5-4 and 1-0 in Brookville, N.Y. To this date, Cavallaro is hitting a Lions’-best .385 average with five home runs and 30 RBI. She also owns a .615 slugging and a .431 on-base percentage thus far.

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior catcher Tiffany D’Alessandro recorded a pair of RBI in two contests on Saturday afternoon as the Molloy College softball team ran its losing streak to three games with defeats at the hands of Southern New Hampshire University by final scores of 13-5 and 7-2 at Penmen Field in Manchester, N.H. With the decisions, the Lions dropped to 15-23 on the year. As for Southern New Hampshire, it has won four of its last five, and improved to 16-20 overall.

FOUR PLAYERS COLLECT TWO RBI AS SOFTBALL WINS ONE IN TWIN BILL VERSUS QUEENS; 6-4, 8-6
FLUSHING, N.Y. – Four players on the Molloy College softball team notched two RBI apiece on Thursday to help the Lions to a split with the Knights of Queens College in an East Coast Conference match-up in Flushing, N.Y. Molloy won the opener by a final score of 6-4, while Queens took the nightcap by a two-score margin at 8-6. Although she did not earn an RBI, junior outfielder Erin Rut led the way with the bat as she hit a team-leading .833 with three runs scored.

SOFTBALL DROPS PAIR OF TOUGH DECISIONS TO DOWLING; 9-0, 6-2
BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. – Freshman utility Meghan Karpinski batted .400 in two games on Wednesday afternoon, but it wasn’t enough as the Molloy College softball team fell by scores of 9-0 and 6-2 to Dowling College in an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Golden Lions’ Field in Brookhaven, N.Y. With the defeats, the Lions have now lost six of their last seven, and dropped to 14-20 on the season. They are also 4-6 in league action.

RYAN TOSSES COMPLETE GAME AS SOFTBALL EARNS SPLIT AT PHILADELPHIA; 6-1, 5-3
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman pitcher Allison Ryan threw a complete game in the second contest of a doubleheader on Monday as the Molloy College softball team won one of two versus Philadelphia University at Bucky Harris Field in Philadelphia, Pa. The Rams took the opener by a 6-1 decision, while the Lions notched a 5-3 win in the nightcap behind Ryan’s showing. With the split, Molloy went to 14-18 overall. As for Philadelphia, it is now 17-14 on the year.

BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL TEAMS ANNOUNCE SCHEDULE CHANGES
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - On Saturday morning, the Molloy College baseball and softball teams made the following changes to their schedules. Today's baseball doubleheader against Adelphi University has now been moved to this Monday at 1:00 p.m. As for softball, the Lions postponed their April 14 contest against Georgian Court University, and cancelled the April 19 twin bill with Post University. Molloy also re-scheduled a previous postponement at the University of Bridgeport for April 20.

D’ALESSANDRO’S THREE HITS NOT ENOUGH AS ADELPHI TAKES TWO FROM SOFTBALL; 11-2, 7-2
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Junior catcher Tiffany D’Alessandro led the Molloy College softball team with three hits on Friday, including two RBI, but her efforts weren’t enough as the Lions lost a pair to the Panthers of Adelphi University by finals of 11-2 and 7-2, respectively. In the double dip, D’Alessandro recorded a .500 batting average with a run scored in addition to her hit total. With the decisions, Molloy dropped to 13-16 overall and 4-4 in East Coast Conference play.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Freshman hurler Allison Ryan threw a complete game five-hitter on Sunday afternoon as the Molloy College softball team registered a split against Wilmington University at Lions’ Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The hosts won the opener by a final score of 3-0, while the Wildcats took the latter, 4-1. Ryan also struck out three batters to pick up her eighth victory of the year. In addition, she lowered her earned run average to 3.86.

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team had its four-game winning streak halted at the Georgian Court Invitational by Caldwell College and Dominican College with scores of 3-1 and 11-8, respectively, at GCU Field in Lakewood, N.J. Freshman first baseman Carla Campagna batted .800 with two RBI and one run scored, while freshman third baseman Josette Cavallaro had three RBI and a .333 batting average.

SYDOR’S TWO KEY HITS DRIVES SOFTBALL TO DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF FELICIAN; 5-4, 2-1
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Sophomore shortstop/second baseman Alexandra Sydor had two big hits that brought in three runs to pace the Molloy College softball team to a twin killing of Felician College on Thursday by finals of 5-4 and 2-1, respectively, at Lions’ Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y. During Game One, she drove in two key insurance runs late, and pushed the game-winning RBI across the plate in the nightcap.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Freshman third baseman Josette Cavallaro slugged three hits, including two homeruns - her third and fourth of the season, and six RBI, as the Molloy College softball team swept St. Thomas Aquinas College by scores of 5-2 and 9-2, respectively. She totaled 10 total bases in the game, and had a slugging percentage of 2.000 for the doubleheader. The three hits raised her batting average to a team-leading .441.

CAVALLARO LANDS ECC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONORS
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – On Monday afternoon, the East Coast Conference selected freshman third baseman Josette Cavallaro as its Rookie of the Week for softball. This marks the second time that she has won the award from the league after receiving the nod on March 17. Cavallaro raked two home runs and seven RBI in six games, while posting a batting average of .500. She also notched a .950 slugging percentage and a .565 on-base percentage.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Senior outfielder Michelle Walsh put together a dazzling performance on Thursday afternoon as she batted .778 with two homers and three RBI to assist the Molloy College softball team in sweeping East Coast Conference nemesis Concordia College in a doubleheader, 6-5 and 8-7, at Lions’ Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Senior shortstop Nicole Losito was also strong at the plate after collecting four hits in five at-bats with six total bases and four runs scored.

With the decisions, the Lions extended their winning streak to three games, and improved to 6-10 on the year. As for the Dolphins, they dropped to an overall record of 12-6.

Both squads claimed their wins in come-from-behind fashion. The Lions won the opener by a score of 7-2, while the Yellow Jackets edged out a 2-1 win in the latter contest.

With the losses, the Lions went to 3-9 on the season, and ran their skid to seven in a row. The Hawks improved to 8-6 overall. They also snapped a four-game losing streak.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Junior catcher Tiffany D’Alessandro had a team-best three RBI, while recording a combined .429 batting average on Thursday, but it did not get the job done as the Molloy College softball team had its losing streak hit five contests following losses by scores of 8-6 and 4-0 to Northeast-10 Conference nemesis Southern Connecticut State University at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla. She also led the Lions with a .571 slugging and .500 on-base percentage.

SYDOR AND CAVALLARO WIN WEEKLY ECC SOFTBALL ACCOLADES
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Sophomore shortstop/second baseman Alexandra Sydor and freshman third baseman Josette Cavallaro garnered respective East Coast Conference Player and Rookie of the Week honors, the league announced on Tuesday. In their season-opening doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas College on Sunday, Sydor batted .625 with three RBI and five hits, while Cavallaro hit .571 with four hits and four ribbies.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – On Tuesday, the Molloy College softball team split a pair of contests with the University of Bridgeport at the Lee County Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. The Lions won Game One by a 4-2 score, while the Purple Knights recorded a 9-8 victory in the nightcap. With the results, Molloy went to an overall mark of 3-3. As for Bridgeport, it ended a three-game losing streak in the latter match-up, and is now at 2-4 on the season.

SYDOR REGISTERS FOUR HITS AS SOFTBALL FALLS TO ST. LEO IN TWIN BILL; 9-1, 6-4
SAINT LEO, Fla. - Sophomore shortstop/third baseman Alexandra Sydor totaled four hits in two games on Monday afternoon but it wasn’t enough as Saint Leo University took both games of a doubleheader by scores of 9-1 in the first game and 6-4 in the second. The Lions’ record is now even at 2-2, while Saint Leo improves to 19-10 on the season.

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Freshman third baseman Josette Cavallaro totaled four RBI in two games on Sunday afternoon as the Molloy College softball team opened up the 2009 campaign with a doubleheader sweep of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 11-4 and 13-0, on the campus of Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Fla. With the wins, the Lions improved to 2-0 overall. As for the Spartans, they fell to 0-2 on the year.

SOFTBALL SELECTED TO FINISH SEVENTH IN ECC PRESEASON POLL
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - On Tuesday, the East Coast Conference announced its preseason Top-10 for softball, and Molloy College is expected to end the 2009 campaign in seventh place. Last season, the Lions owned an overall register of 22-24 and an East Coast Conference line of 8-12. They also put two names on the All-ECC roster.

GLEN COVE, N.Y. - On Sunday afternoon, the Molloy College softball team volunteered its time to hold a clinic for the Glen Cove Youth League. The players worked on fielding, hitting and running with the kids. They also participated in various games with them.

FOUR TEAMS INK RECRUITS TO NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - Very recently, four Molloy College athletic teams had its recruits sign a national letter of intent, which is a binding contract between the student-athlete and the institution. They were the Lions' women's basketball, softball, and men's and women's lacrosse squads - all of which brought in at least two each.

THREE SOFTBALL PLAYERS GARNER ACADEMIC PRAISE FROM NFCA
STARKVILLE, Miss. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association in conjunction with Girls Got Game recently announced its 2007-08 All-America Scholar-Athletes, and three members of the Molloy College softball team earned the award after achieving a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. They were senior Florence Williams and juniors Shannon Skeggs and Jennifer Dwyer.

SOFTBALL RELEASES 2008 FALL SCHEDULE
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Molloy College Head Softball Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke recently confirmed the Lions’ fall schedule for 2008. Over the continuance of four weeks, Molloy will compete in four tournaments – one of which will be hosted by the Lions at the softball complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. on October 4.
