ORLANDO, Fla. (Jun. 16, 2009) - From May 24-27, sophomore Jackie Bove (North Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Lincoln Nembhard (Elmont, N.Y.) of the respective Molloy College women's and men's lacrosse teams went to the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association Student-Athlete Development Convention in Orlando, Fla. The convention, which was themed as "A Journey of Self-Discovery", turned out to be quite an experience for both student-athletes.
"I learned a lot - not only about myself but about others also," stated Bove. "The DISC assessment was a great help, and it taught me a lot. I am definitely going to take back what I learned at this convention to my team, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, my community and my school. Overall, I had a good time and met a lot of interesting people that I will stay in touch with."
"I thought it was a fun and interactive couple of days," Nembhard thought. "I truly learned a good amount about myself in regards to being an individual and especially bettering myself in a leadership role. I was also able to take in a lot that I can bring back to everyday life. Plus, I met a lot of great people that I will keep in touch with.
With over 600 people residing in the Sunshine State for this four-day event, the student-athletes were broken up into colored teams. The convention provided them opportunity to enhance their leadership, communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills. The student-athletes also took part in exercises, which were based upon the foundation of networking, branding, communications and energy management.
Lastly, they were able to attend "Sports Day", which was held at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney. For more information about the NCAA Student-Athlete Development Convention, please click here.
