ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Dec. 1, 2009) - Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Eric Petrullo (Massapequa, N.Y.) of Molloy College has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2011 season. Coming on to wear the Lions' maroon and white colors are John Grebe (Holbrook, N.Y.), Thomas Rhodes (East Meadow, N.Y.) and Patrick Foley (Hicksville, N.Y.). Last year, Grebe was selected to the All-Division team for his play in the cage, while Rhodes and Foley excelled at their respective attack and defensive positions.
Last year, Grebe helped Sachem East High School to an overall mark of 5-10. He was also a key cog between the pipes for the Flaming Arrows. "At a height of 6-2, John has very good size, and is a great ball stopper," said Petrullo. "He is also an extremely smart student."
From a scoring standpoint, Rhodes got 18 points on 11 goals and seven assists in 2009. He also took 33 shots on goal, while picking up 25 ground balls for East Meadow High School. "On or off of the ball, Tom is a tough and quick player," Petrullo stated.
Foley will enter as a transfer from Nassau Community College. Last season, he assisted the Hicksville Comets in holding the opposition to 127 goals. As a result, Hicksville posted a 16-4 ledger, and advanced to post-season play. "Pat will be asked to make an impact right away at Molloy," said Petrullo. "He has good size and a great stick."
The Lions will start up the 2010 season on February 28 when they open a three-game homestand versus new East Coast Conference member Wheeling Jesuit University. The opening faceoff is slated for noon.
