HUPFER RECEIVES ECC MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR KUDOS

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Sophomore Ryan Hupfer of the Molloy College men’s cross country team was honored on Friday afternoon as the East Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He was also one of six ECC student-athletes from the fall season to take home the accolade. In addition, Hupfer is currently majoring in History, and sports a 3.61 grade-point average at Molloy.



BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Matthew Badamo came in 37th-place in the 10k on Sunday afternoon as the Molloy College men’s cross country team ended up 15th at the 2009 NCAA East Region Championships at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. On the day, the Lions notched 415 points as two of their runners crossed in the Top-60. University of Massachusetts – Lowell took top honors. Stonehill College placed second overall in the race.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – On Sunday, the Molloy College men’s cross country squad finished up second in the five-mile run at the 2009 East Coast Conference Championships at C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y. The Lions took in superb runs from graduate Matthew Walsh and senior Matthew Badamo as they came in ninth and 10th-place, respectively. For their efforts, they each garnered All-ECC second-team kudos. Overall, the Lions registered 75 points as a team.

Brennan’s performance in the St. John’s University Invitational on Sunday at Cunningham Park helped the squad capture first place in what continues to be a stellar season for the Lions.

FRESH MEADOWS, N.Y. – On Sunday morning, the Molloy College men’s cross country team took home its second top trophy of the 2009 campaign as the Lions posted a first-place run in the St. John’s University Invitational at Cunningham Park in Fresh Meadows, N.Y. Leading the way in the 5k for Molloy was sophomore Ryan Hupfer, who placed second at a clocking of 17:58.53. This meet was the last for the Lions before next week’s East Coast Conference Championships.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Graduate Matthew Walsh notched a 61st-place run in the 8k on Saturday afternoon as the Molloy College men’s cross country team posted a 13th-place showing at the DeSales University Invitational in Center Valley, Pa. Overall, the Lions accumulated a team total of 363 points. Dickinson College got top honors as each of its five runners placed in the Top-10, which included the first- and second-best runner in the competition.

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College men’s cross country squad won the Blue Knight Invitational with a team score of 69 points at Chadwick Lake Park in Newburgh, N.Y. Graduate Matthew Walsh led the way as he took first place in the 8k by ripping the tape in a time of 28:45.27. The second-place finisher was sophomore Sean Daly from Farmingdale State College. He followed Walsh 19 seconds later at a mark of 29:04.94.

WATERFORD, Conn. – Graduate Matthew Walsh ripped the tape at a 39th-place clocking of 26:34 in the 8k as the Molloy College men’s cross country squad came in 12th-place out of 16 teams at the Connecticut College Invitational, which took place at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn. Overall, the Lions accumulated a score of 338 points. Tufts University took first place at 48 points. The mark for the Wantagh native also proved to be a new school record.

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Graduate Matthew Walsh established a new school mark in the 8k on Saturday afternoon with a 15th-place run of 26:41.20 to power the Molloy College men’s cross country team to a fifth-place performance at the 2009 New York Institute of Technology Invite, which was held at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y. The record was broken by more than a minute as nine Lions had personal bests at the meet.

Post Invitational on Saturday afternoon in Brookville, N.Y. As a team, the Lions recorded 68 points. The host Pioneers won their own race as they notched 28 points.

Overall, the Lions gathered 91 points. The Panthers of Adelphi University came in first place with 20 points as all five of their runners crossed the line in the Top-10.
