WALSH SETS NEW SCHOOL RECORD AS MENS CROSS COUNTRY TAKES FIFTH AT NYIT INVITATIONAL

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Sept. 19, 2009) –
Graduate Matthew Walsh (Wantagh, N.Y.) established
a new school mark in the 8k on Saturday afternoon with a 15th-place
run of 26:41.20 to power the Molloy College men’s cross
country team to a fifth-place performance at the 2009 New York
Institute of Technology Invite, which was held at Bethpage State
Park in Farmingdale, N.Y. The record was broken by more than a
minute as nine Lions had personal bests at the meet.
Senior Matthew Badamo (Floral Park, N.Y.) came in
42nd-place after notching a 27:51.50 clocking. Soon after, freshman
Guy Murolo (Garden City, N.Y.) crossed as he had
59th-place (28:30.70). Finishing nine behind him was rookie
Nick DiBenedetto (Wantagh, N.Y.) with a time of
28:51.40. Junior Patrick McCabe (Garden City Park,
N.Y.) capped off the Top-5 for Molloy following a
71st-place clocking of 29:09.20. And lastly, freshman
Daniel Brennan (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) ended up in
77th-place (29:24.50) in his collegiate debut.
Head Coach Al Kilfoyle and the Lions return to the grind next
Saturday when they take part in the Connecticut College
Invitational. The race is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
