MENS CROSS COUNTRY WINS MSMC INVITATIONAL; WALSH POSTS TOP INDIVIDUAL RUN IN NEWBURGH

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 3, 2009) – On
Saturday afternoon, the Molloy College men’s cross country
squad won the Blue Knight Invitational with a team score of 69
points at Chadwick Lake Park in Newburgh, N.Y. Graduate
Matthew Walsh (Wantagh, N.Y.) led the way as he
took first place in the 8k by ripping the tape in a time of
28:45.27. The second-place finisher was sophomore Sean Daly
(Lindenhurst, N.Y.) from Farmingdale State College. He
followed Walsh 19 seconds later at a mark of 29:04.94.
Placing six behind him was senior Matthew Badamo (Floral
Park, N.Y.), who clocked in at a mark of 29:57.62. Junior
Patrick McCabe (Garden City Park, N.Y.) picked up
13th-place kudos as he posted a time of 30:27.50. Freshman
Nick DiBenedetto (Wantagh, N.Y.) came in
21st-place (31:16.48), while sophomore Michael Colucci
(Oceanside, N.Y.) was a 27th-place runner at 31:25.60,
which capped off the Top-5 runners for Molloy on the day. Freshman
Joseph Wellbrock (Mineola, N.Y.) added a strong
34th-place run (31:51.85).
Head Coach Al Kilfoyle and the Lions return to action next
Saturday when they take part in the 2009 DeSales University
Invitational in Center Valley, Pa. The gun is scheduled to go off
at 10:30 a.m.
