WALSH PLACES 20TH IN 5K AS MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES FOURTH AT HOFSTRA INVITATIONAL

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Sept. 5, 2009) - Graduate Matthew Walsh (Wantagh, N.Y.) ended up in 20th-place in the 5k on Saturday afternoon to lead the Molloy College men's cross country team to a fourth-place showing at the Hofstra University Invitational, which was held at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y. Overall, the Lions gathered 91 points. The Panthers of Adelphi University came in first place with 20 points as all five of their runners crossed the line in the Top-10.

Walsh came in at 16:43.01 in the race. Placing four spots behind him was senior Matthew Badamo (Floral Park, N.Y.). The Floral Park native came in at a clocking of 16:52.61. No more than 40 seconds later, freshman Guy Murolo (Garden City, N.Y.) crossed. Murolo's time was 17:30.95, which was good for a 38th-place run. Sophomore Michael Colucci (Oceanside, N.Y.) put together a 45th-place performance after ripping the tape in 17:46.20. Freshman Nick DiBenedetto (Wantagh, N.Y.) capped the Top-5 for Molloy at a 47th-place mark of 17:49.97.

Head Coach Al Kilfoyle and the Lions return to action next Saturday when they head to Brookville, N.Y. for the C.W. Post Invitational. The gun is slated to go off at 10:30 a.m.
