MENS CROSS COUNTRY TAKES FIRST AT ST. JOHN'S INVITATIONAL

FRESH MEADOWS, N.Y. (Oct. 18, 2009) - On Sunday morning, the Molloy College men's cross country team took home its second top trophy of the 2009 season as the Lions posted a first-place run in the St. John's University Invitational at Cunningham Park in Fresh Meadows, N.Y. Leading the way in the 5k for Molloy was sophomore Ryan Hupfer (Hicksville, N.Y.), who placed second at a clocking of 17:58.53. This meet was the last for the Lions before next week's East Coast Conference Championships.
The next three runners for Molloy were in succession from fourth to sixth. Sophomore Michael Colucci (Oceanside, N.Y.) crossed at 18:08.46. Freshman Daniel Brennan (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) clocked in at 18:09.56. Sophomore Matthew Biggin (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had a time of 18:57.55. Freshman Joseph Wellbrock (Mineola, N.Y.) capped off the Top-5 runners for the Lions by ripping the tape in eighth place at 19:36.87. Junior John Lynch (Oceanside, N.Y.) contributed a ninth-place performance (19:40.32).
Head Coach Al Kilfoyle and his squad return to action next Sunday when Molloy competes in the East Coast Conference Championships at C.W. Post in Brookville, N.Y. The men's race is slated for an 11 a.m. start.
