SIX LIONS NAMED TO FALL 2008 ECC SCHOLAR-ATHLETE HONOR ROLL

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – On Friday afternoon, the East Coast Conference sent out its tally of scholar-athletes for the Fall 2008 semester, and six players from Molloy College were selected to the honor roll. Each recipient is nominated by their school, and then voted on by the Faculty Athletic representatives for Scholar-Athlete of the Year laud.



MANCHESTER, N.H. - On Friday afternoon, the fifth-seeded Molloy College men's soccer team lost a close 3-2 decision to the fourth-seeded and No. 20 River Hawks of University of Massachusetts - Lowell in the outset round of the NCAA Division II Tournament at Larkin Field on the grounds of Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, N.H. With the loss, the Lions ended the 2008 season with an overall record of 12-6-2.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On Monday, the National Collegiate Athletic Association released its 32-team field for the 2008 Division II Men’s Soccer Tournament, and Molloy College notched the No. 5 seed in the East Region. The Lions will face the 20th-ranked and fourth-seeded River Hawks of University of Massachusetts – Lowell at Southern New Hampshire University on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – The East Coast Conference recently issued its all-conference team for men's soccer, and Molloy College had six players on the slate. Also, senior defender Nick Bell and senior keeper Ettore Morelli made defensive player and goalie of the year distinction, respectively, in addition to being named to the All-ECC first-team.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - Sophomore midfielder Jose Batista and sophomore forward Emmanuel Gamez tallied five points on two goals and an assist, while junior forward John-Paul Hughes recorded three assists to send the Molloy College men's soccer team to its first-ever postseason win with a 6-1 victory versus Queens College in the 2008 East Coast Conference Tournament on Wednesday evening at the Dean G. He also took three shots on net.

SPARKILL, N.Y. – Senior netminder Ettore Morelli stopped a season-high 12 shots, while senior midfielder Michael Topel and sophomore midfielder Mike Marques each added tallies on Tuesday afternoon, sending the Molloy College men’s soccer team to a 2-0 shutout against host St. Thomas Aquinas in East Coast Conference action.
