MEN’S SOCCER RALLIES FOR 3-2 WIN OVER NYIT IN 2009 SEASON FINALE

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – Trailing 2-1 with just over 30 minutes to go in the second stanza, the Molloy College men’s soccer team scored two markers in a 15-plus minute span to down New York Institute of Technology, 3-2, on Wednesday at President’s Stadium in Old Westbury, N.Y. Senior midfielder Jose Batista earned the deciding goal in the 76th-minute on a feed from sophomore midfielder Daniel Patino. With the win, the Lions closed out the 2009 campaign at 7-8-1 overall.



CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – Following last week’s showings, senior midfielder Jose Batista and freshman goalkeeper Michael Hunter were dubbed the East Coast Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. In the past two contests, Batista notched eight points on three goals and two assists. He also attempted a team-best 10 shots. Meanwhile, Hunter registered a pair of victories in net – one of which was his first-ever collegiate win.

No make-up date has been announced yet. Meanwhile, Tuesday's scheduled men’s soccer game at Caldwell College was cancelled, and will not be played.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Jose Batista raked his second hat trick of the 2009 season on Thursday afternoon to power the Molloy College men’s soccer squad to a 4-1 victory over University of New Haven at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Also, Batista had a game-high six shots as the Lions improved their ledger to 6-8-1 overall. As for the Chargers, they dropped to 1-15 on the campaign.

Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With eight minutes remaining in regulation and the two squads sitting in a 1-1 lock, freshman defenseman Hector Roche placed a cross-pass from senior midfielder Jose Batista into the back of the mesh.

Skelos Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Purple Knights’ senior forward Gilbert Bayonne notched the deciding tally for the visitors with just 30 seconds remaining in the second extra session. Senior midfielder Habib Sylla was credited with the assist on the play.

FLUSHING, N.Y. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Molloy College men’s soccer squad suffered its second-straight defeat with a 5-1 loss to East Coast Conference foe Queens College at the Queens Soccer Field in Flushing, N.Y. The Lions have now gone to an overall record of 4-7-1 and a league mark of 1-3. They also have losses in four of their last six games. As for the Knights, they snapped a two-game skid, and improved to 8-5 on the year. Queens is also 2-2 in ECC action.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Tied at 1-up at the break, C.W. Post scored two late goals in the second period to beat the Molloy College men’s soccer team by a score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at the C.W. Post soccer field in Brookville, N.Y. The Pioneers now own an overall mark of 6-5-1 and an East Coast Conference record of 2-2. As for the Lions, they fell to 4-6-1 and 1-2 against league opposition. Molloy has also lost three of its previous four contests.

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Jose Batista notched a career day on Tuesday afternoon with four goals for the Molloy College men’s soccer team as the Lions upended the Mavericks of Mercy College, 4-2, at Mercy Field in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. The victory improves Molloy to 4-5-1 overall and 1-1 in East Coast Conference play. It also halted a two-game skid. As for Mercy, it went to 2-6 and 0-2 against league opposition.

ERIE, Pa. – Down 2-0 at the break, the Molloy College men’s soccer team trimmed the deficit in half with an early marker from junior forward/midfielder Mike Adamcewicz. But, it was not enough as the Lions fell to the 18th-ranked Lakers of Mercyhurst College by a final of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Mercyhurst Field in Erie, Pa. With the loss, the Lions dropped to an overall record of 3-4-1. As for the Lakers, they improved to 7-2 on the 2009 campaign.
