Box Score vs. Queens - October 14, 2009
FLUSHING, N.Y. (Oct. 14, 2009) - On Wednesday afternoon, the Molloy College men's soccer squad suffered its second-straight defeat with a 5-1 loss to East Coast Conference foe Queens College at the Queens Soccer Field in Flushing, N.Y. The Lions have now gone to an overall record of 4-7-1 and a league mark of 1-3. They also sport losses in four of their last six games. As for the Knights, they snapped a two-game skid, and improved to 8-5 on the year. Queens is also 2-2 in ECC action.
The Knights drew first blood with 15:33 gone by in the first half as senior midfielder Frank Alesci (Ridgewood, N.Y.) notched his fourth goal of 2009 on an unassisted effort. From that point, there would not be another tally until the start of the latter period. In the 47th-minute, junior forward Mike Adamcewicz (Hicksville, N.Y.) knotted up the game off of a feed from sophomore midfielder Daniel Patino (Valley Stream, N.Y.). Queens answered right back though a minute later on a goal from freshman forward Daniel Stoker (London, England).
During the 54th-minute, the Knights extended their margin to a pair when sophomore midfielder Daniel Ospina (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) punched a shot off the hands of Lions' sophomore goalie Carlos Barros (Mineola, N.Y.), and rolled into the back of the mesh. Four minutes later, Ospina recorded his second goal of the contest. He kicked a ball from 25 yards out into the top-left corner of the cage. Queens capped the scoring in the 84th-minute on a penalty kick by sophomore midfielder Jose Aquije (Lima, Peru).
In net, Barros stopped a game-high nine shots for Molloy, while junior goalie Julio Rodriguez (Oakland Gardens, N.Y.) made one save for Queens. Overall, the Knights held a 24-5 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field this Saturday when they open up a three-game homestand in Rockville Centre, N.Y. against University of Bridgeport.
