MEN’S SOCCER RALLIES FOR 3-2 WIN OVER NYIT IN 2009 SEASON FINALE

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Oct. 28, 2009) - Trailing 2-1 with just over 30 minutes to go in the second stanza, the Molloy College men's soccer team scored two markers in a 15-plus minute span to down New York Institute of Technology, 3-2, on Wednesday at President's Stadium in Old Westbury, N.Y. Senior midfielder Jose Batista (Rego Park, N.Y.) earned the deciding goal in the 76th-minute on a feed from sophomore midfielder Daniel Patino (Valley Stream, N.Y.). With the win, the Lions closed out the 2009 campaign at 7-8-1 overall.

On the play, Batista headed in a rebound, which was a ball originally shot by Patino. The Bears (8-9, 2-4 ECC) started the scoring in the 18th-minute as freshman midfielder Charles Paracat (Centereach, N.Y.) punched a shot off a rebound. Rookie defenseman/midfielder Felipe Santos (Vitoria, Brazil) and senior forward Andre Lee (Montego Bay, Jamaica) were credited with assists. As NYIT headed into the break up a goal, Molloy freshman forward Tyler De La Torre (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored four minutes into the second period.

Soon after, in the 54th-minute, the Bears regained the lead. Sophomore forward Farah Toure (Prince George, Md.) was taken down in the box, and converted on the penalty kick. Three minutes later, the Lions tied the game yet again as an NYIT defenseman re-directed a ball into his squad's netting for an own goal. Bears' senior goalie Cosimo D'Agostino (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) made a game-high four saves. Rookie netminder Michael Hunter (Merrick, N.Y.) turned aside a trio of shots in his third victory for the Lions.

Overall, NYIT held an 11-10 edge in shots, while Molloy sported a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Batista took four shots on the day, which was a game-best. De La Torre added two shots for the Lions. As for the Bears, Paracat and Toure attempted three shots apiece.
