RODERICK’S 59TH-MINUTE TALLY FOR MEN'S SOCCER STUNS SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Sept. 16, 2008) - On Tuesday night, junior midfielder Graeme Roderick (Liverpool, England) portrayed the role of hero for the third-consecutive match as he notched the game-winning goal with just under 32 minutes to go in the second half to lift the Molloy College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win against Southern Connecticut State University at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn.

Senior midfielder Kieran Wallis (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) was credited with the assist on the tally. On the play, Roderick sent a shot from 30 yards out into the top-right corner of the goal. With the victory, the Lions (2-3-1) have now gone unbeaten in their last three games, while the Owls (3-3-1) had a streak of four games without a loss snapped. It was also their first home loss of the season.

Roderick and sophomore forward Emmanuel Gamez (Freeport, N.Y.) attempted a team-high two shots apiece for Molloy. Senior midfielder Djordje Jankovic (Sabac, Serbia) had a game-high four shots for Southern Connecticut, which sported a 12-6 margin in shots and a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. In net, Lions' senior goaltender Ettore Morelli (North Bellmore, N.Y.) notched his second shutout in his last three starts after turning aside two shots. Freshman keeper Andrew Esposito (East Haven, Conn.) made three saves for the Owls.

Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to action this Thursday when they travel back to Connecticut to do battle with former East Coast Conference foe New Haven. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
