MERRIMACK EDGES OUT MENS SOCCER, 3-2

Box Score vs. Merrimack - August 30, 2008
COLCHESTER, Vt. (Aug. 30, 2008) - Senior midfielder William Bell (Valley Stream, N.Y.) and senior forward Nick D'Alessandro (West Hempstead, N.Y.) tallied a goal each on Saturday afternoon, but it did not get the Molloy College men's soccer squad the win as it was beat by Merrimack College, 3-2. The game was also part of Day Two of the 2008 DoubleTree Kickoff Classic, which was held at St. Michael's College in Colchester, Vt.
The eventual game-winning marker was recorded in the 62nd-minute by Warriors (2-0) senior midfielder Wayne Sygrove (Yorkshire, England), who scored off a feed from senior forward Tiago Dalboni (Medford, Mass.). Dalboni was tied with freshman midfielder/forward Robbie Sabadoz (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) for the game-high in points with three (1G, 1A).
Merrimack drew first blood with just over five minutes remaining in the opening stanza when Sabadoz found the back of the net on an unassisted effort. That proved to be the only score of the first half as the Warriors went into the intermission with a 1-0 advantage.
In the latter period, Merrimack extended the lead to a pair as Dalboni punched one inside the goal in the 57th-minute off a pass from Sabadoz. Three minutes later, Molloy (0-2) got on the board with a tally by D'Alessandro. Sophomore forward Emmanuel Gamez (Freeport, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
Following the Sygrove marker, Bell pulled the Lions within one on a goal off a penalty kick in the 82nd-minute. As a squad, Molloy held a 9-5 edge in corner kicks, while Merrimack owned a 20-17 advantage in shots.
Senior goaltender Ettore Morelli (North Bellmore, N.Y.) made a game-high 10 saves for the Lions, while senior goalkeeper Rob Pedra (South Hamilton, Mass.) knocked down seven shots for the Warriors.
Molloy returns to action this Tuesday when it continues its four-game road swing in Waltham, Mass. against Bentley College. The opening kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
