Box Score vs. Lock Haven - September 12, 2008
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Sept. 12, 2008) - Trailing 1-0 with less than a minute to go in the second half, junior midfielder Graeme Roderick (Liverpool, England) notched the equalizer with 57 seconds left to knot up a game at 1-1 between the Molloy College men's soccer team and Lock Haven University on Friday evening at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. After two 10-minute overtime periods, the contest went into the books as a tie.
On the play, Roderick put back a shot that was originally attempted by freshman midfielder Anthony Morais (Mineola, N.Y.). The ball was punched in the lower left corner of the goal and just past the diving Bald Eagles' (2-3-1) junior goaltender William Trimble (Lancaster, Pa.). In the process, Morais was credited with the assist - his first of the season.
Lock Haven reached the scoreboard first seven minutes earlier when freshman forward Greg Shertzer (Lebanon, Pa.) got his own rebound off a save by Molloy (1-3-1) senior goalkeeper Ettore Morelli (North Bellmore, N.Y.) and was placed just under the crossbar with a wide-open net staring him in the face. Shertzer also took a team-high two shots of 11 for LHU.
With the exception of one tally, Trimble was flawless in goal as he stopped a game-high 13 shots for the Bald Eagles. As for Morelli, he made four saves for the Lions, who held a 31-11 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in corner kicks. Both teams had great offensive spurts in the extra periods, but all shots were turned aside by the opposing netminders.
Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to action this Tuesday when they open up a two-game road swing under the lights at Southern Connecticut State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
