ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Oct. 4, 2008) - Junior forward John-Paul Hughes (Manchester, England) and junior midfielder Graeme Roderick (Liverpool, England) dished an assist each on Saturday evening to lead the Molloy College men's soccer team to its fifth-consecutive victory with a 2-0 decision versus C.W. Post at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the win, the Lions went to 6-3-1 overall and 2-0 in East Coast Conference action. As for the Pioneers, they fell to 4-6 and 0-2 in league play.
Molloy, which has now extended its unbeaten streak to seven consecutive contests, struck first just 6:19 into the first half when senior midfielder Kieran Wallis (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) found the left side of the net off a cross from Roderick. That score was Wallis' first of the season on his only shot of the match.
Later on, in the 71st-minute, senior forward Nick D'Alessandro (West Hempstead, N.Y.) shut the door on C.W. Post when he put a feed from Hughes, who sent the ball from the right corner, into the lower left corner of the goal. That tally tied D'Alessandro for the team-lead in goals with four. As for Hughes, the assist marked his fourth on the year.
Molloy senior goalkeeper Ettore Morelli (North Bellmore, N.Y.) made a game-high six saves, while C.W. Post freshman goaltender Demetrios Touros (Astoria, N.Y.) knocked down three shots. The Lions held a 9-8 edge in shots and both teams had two corner kicks apiece.
Molloy sophomore midfielder Jose Batista (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and C.W. Post sophomore midfielder Joe O'Rourke (London, England) took a game-high four shots each. Senior midfielder Michael Topel (Levittown, N.Y.) added two shots.
Head Coach Danny Longo and the Lions return to the field this Tuesday when they wrap up their four-game homestand against the New York Institute of Technology. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
