MORELLI EARNS ECC GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2008) - The East Coast Conference chose its weekly men's soccer award recipients on Monday, and senior Ettore Morelli (North Bellmore, N.Y.) was selected as the goalkeeper of the week by the league. This marks the second honor for him as he took home the same praise for the week through September 14.

In two games, Morelli posted two wins with one shutout. He also compiled eight saves and a goals-against average of 0.50. On Wednesday, Morelli stopped two shots as Molloy downed Mercy College by a 4-1 count. Three days later, he made a game-high six saves to lead the Lions past the Pioneers of C.W. Post, 2-0, to improve to 6-3-1 overall and 2-0 in ECC play.

This season, Morelli has notched two shutouts over 10 starts. He has also turned aside 38 shots and is sporting a 1.20 goals-against average and a .760 save percentage for the Lions, who are riding a five-game winning streak and a seven-game unbeaten stretch.

Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to the field this Tuesday when Molloy wraps up its four-game swing at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex versus the New York Institute of Technology, which is slotted ninth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America East Region poll. The opening kick is scheduled for 6 p.m.
