CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Sept. 16, 2008) - After yielding just two goals this week, Molloy College men's soccer senior keeper Ettore Morelli (North Bellmore, N.Y.) garnered defensive player of the week praise from the East Coast Conference on Monday. In the two games, he recorded a goals-against average of 0.90 with a save percentage of .800.
In the contest against Caldwell College on Wednesday, Morelli made four saves in a 2-1 victory. Two days later, he turned aside four shots again as he helped the Lions to a 1-1 tie against the Bald Eagles of Lock Haven University. During that same match, Morelli made a game-saving stop in overtime as he leaped to catch a ball, which was heading for the top shelf of the goal.
This season, Morelli owns a ledger of 1-3-1 with 27 saves and a GAA of 1.91. He is also sporting a .730 save percentage in 470 minutes of action.
Head Coach Danny Longo and his squad return to the soccer field tonight when Molloy heads to New Haven, Conn. for a game under the lights at Southern Connecticut State University. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
