MARQUES GRABS ECC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS; MORELLI GETS THIRD NOD AS TOP GOALIE

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Oct. 27, 2008) - On Monday afternoon, the East Coast Conference named its weekly award recipients, and sophomore midfielder Mike Marques (Mineola, N.Y.) was picked as the co-player of the week by the league. He shares the laud with Dowling College junior forward Lamine Traore (Mali, Africa). From the goal, senior keeper Ettore Morelli (North Bellmore, N.Y.) got ECC Goalie of the Week recognition for the third time this season.
In two games, Marques notched a team-high three goals - one of which was the deciding marker in a 4-1 decision over the University of Bridgeport. During that same match-up on Saturday night, he had two tallies and three shots on goal. Four days prior against St. Thomas Aquinas College, Marques tacked on an insurance tally as the Lions blanked the Spartans, 2-0.
For Morelli, he recorded a mark of 2-0 with one shutout. He also compiled 17 saves and a goals-against average of 0.50. Furthermore, Morelli posted a .944 save percentage in 180 minutes of action. Versus STAC, he turned aside a season-best 12 saves. Then, in the contest with the Purple Knights, Morelli made a game-high five saves.
This season, Marques has totaled eight points off of three goals and two assists. He has also attempted 18 shots - eight of which have been on net. As for Morelli, he has started in all 16 games and owns a ledger of 9-5-2 with four shutouts. He has also racked up 78 saves and registered a 1.22 GAA and save percentage of .796.
With Saturday's victory, Molloy has clinched a spot in the East Coast Conference Tournament, which is scheduled to begin with semifinal action on Wednesday, November 5. The Lions can host that game with the combination of a victory over Queens College and a Bridgeport loss against Dowling this Wednesday. Kickoff for the Molloy/Queens contest is 6 p.m.
