MEN'S LACROSSE OPENS 2010 ECC SLATE WITH 18-4 LOSS TO NO. 3 MERCYHURST

ERIE, Pa. – Junior Cameron McLean netted a game-high six points onfour goals and two assists, while senior Tyler Burton added three goals and two assists Saturday afternoonat Tullio Field, as the third-ranked Mercyhurst men’s lacrosse team toppled Molloy, 18-4, in an East Coast Conference contest. With the result, the Lions fell to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in league play. As for the Lakers, they improved to 4-0 and 2-0 in the ECC.



ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Senior midfielder Albert Maione and sophomore attackman Ryan Kudlek sported a game-high six points apiece on Tuesday to lead the Molloy College men’s lacrosse team past Dominican University by a result of 17-8 at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Maione totaled four goals and two assists, while Kudlek notched four assists and a pair of assists. With the win, the Lions went to 2-2 overall.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Senior attackman Matt Dolan picked up a hat trick to go with five ground balls on Saturday afternoon, but it didn’t get the job done as the 10th-ranked Molloy College men’s lacrosse team fell to Southern New Hampshire University, 13-10, in the opener to its 2010 season at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. He also took four shots on goal as the Lions dropped to 0-1 on the season. Meanwhile, the Penmen improved to 1-0.

PERRY, N.Y. – The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association recently released its first Division II tally of the 2010 campaign, and Molloy College was slotted ninth in the poll. The Lions notched nine points in the census, and were locked with the Falcons of Bentley University for the spot. Defending national champion C.W. Post was placed atop the poll as it got 59 points and five first-place votes.

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. – On Friday morning, the Molloy College men’s lacrosse team, which is slotted eighth in the Face-Off Magazine Preseason Top-10, was chosen to finish fifth in the East Coast Conference standings for the 2010 campaign. The census was assembled through a vote by the league’s 11 head coaches. Last season, the Lions sported an overall record of 10-3 and an ECC mark of 3-3. They also held a ranking as high as No. 4 on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II poll.

This trio will look to lead the Lions to another successful year as they recorded an overall mark of 10-3 and an East Coast Conference ledger of 3-3 in 2009.

BALTIMORE, Md. – Inside Lacrosse recently publicized its preseason Top-10 for NCAA Division II, and the Molloy College men’s lacrosse team was positioned eighth on the tally. The magazine also released their list of All-America honorees. Senior midfielder Albert Maione was selected to the first-team after posting a 2009 season that saw him register 36 points on 25 goals and 11 assists. He also had 21 ground balls and three caused turnovers in the process.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Eric Petrullo of Molloy College has announced the signing of three student-athletes for the 2011 season. Coming on to wear the Lions’ maroon and white colors are John Grebe, Thomas Rhodes and Patrick Foley. Last year, Grebe was selected to the All-Division team for his play in the cage, while Rhodes and Foley excelled at their respective attack and defensive positions.

CLEVELAND, OHIO – Last week, the Athletic Directors’ Association announced its recipients of the 2008-09 Academic Achievement Award for Division II, and Molloy College had 29 of its student-athletes recognized out of a total of 4,020 across 115 institutions. In order to obtain this honor, the student-athlete had to achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better. They also needed to attend the institution for at least two years, and be a member of an intercollegiate team during his or her previous academic year.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – This week, senior midfielder Keith Galante of the Molloy College men’s lacrosse team was proclaimed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as the 2009 National Statistical Champion for assists per game in Division II. He dished out an assist average of 3.31 to claim the crown. For the Lions, this marks their second stat title in the spring season as junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski of women’s lacrosse got it for draws.
