MENS LACROSSE MOVES UP TO EIGHTH IN LAXNEWS POLL; NINTH IN USILA TALLY

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Feb. 24, 2009) - Although it has yet to play a game this season, the Molloy College men's lacrosse team was slotted eighth this week in the LaxNews Division II poll and ninth in the ledger issued by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. The Lions earned 11 points in the USILA tally, which is four better than Belmont Abbey College and Limestone College.
Defending national champion New York Institute of Technology remains atop the poll. The Bears received 80 points and eight first-place votes. Le Moyne College owns the No. 2 ranking with 72 points. C.W. Post, which is coming off victories against Wingate University and Catawba College in North Carolina, is presently slotted third. Mercyhurst College owns the No. 4 ranking after compiling a total of 56 points.
Adelphi University jumped up one notch in the USILA poll this week to fifth. The Panthers kicked off the 2009 campaign in Orlando with 8-4 and 22-9 victories over Saint Leo University and the University of Central Florida, respectively. Dowling College is ranked sixth after raking in 42 points. Merrimack College made a quick move from eighth to seventh. And lastly, Mars Hill College won its season opener last Saturday at Saint Andrew's College, 17-12. For their effort, the Lions are now ranked eighth in the country.
Head Coach Joe Catalanotti and his squad open up its 2009 schedule next Sunday, March 8, when Molloy hosts Northeast-10 Conference opponent Assumption College at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The opening face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
