GALANTE AND MAIONE RECEIVE USILA ALL-AMERICA DISTINCTION

USILA Division II All-America Team
PERRY, N.Y. (May. 19, 2009) - On Tuesday afternoon, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its All-America teams, and the Molloy College men's lacrosse squad had two of its players make the cut. Senior midfielder Keith Galante (Plainview, N.Y.) was selected to the first-team, while junior midfielder Albert Maione (West Islip, N.Y.) earned second-team honors. For Galante, this is the second consecutive season that he got recognition from the USILA after being dubbed a second-team all-star in 2008.
Galante, who was picked to the All-East Coast Conference first-team in 2009, totaled a team-leading 65 points on 43 assists and 22 goals. Seven of those tallies also came with a man-up opportunity. Furthermore, he took 95 shots to go with 32 ground balls. On another note, Galante became the all-time leader at Molloy in assists and points. He broke both records in a 17-9 win versus Pace University on April 15. At the start of the year, Galante was chosen as a Preseason All-America first-team honoree by Inside Lacrosse.
He is currently the national leader in assists per game at an average of 3.31. Galante is also positioned fifth in points per game (5.0) and 60th in goals per contest (1.69). Amongst the ECC, he is slotted in the Top-5 in a trio of statistical categories. Galante is ranked second in assists per game, fourth in points per game and fifth in shots per game (7.31). As a result of his efforts, the USILA gave him the Lt. Donald McLaughlin Jr. Award, which recognizes the best midfielder in NCAA Division II.
After transferring over from defending national champion New York Institute of Technology, Maione registered 25 goals and 11 assists for 36 points. He also accumulated 19 ground balls and three caused turnovers, while scoring seven extra-man tallies and two game-winners. In the nation, Maione is slotted 30th in goals per game (2.08), 36th in points per contest (3.0) and 62nd in assists per game (0.92). As for the East Coast Conference, he is at No. 3 in shots per game (7.75) and No. 7 in goals per game.
Molloy closed out the 2009 season with an overall record of 10-3 and an ECC ledger of 3-3. They also finished up at sixth in the country according to the USILA Division II poll. In addition, the Lions sported the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year in freshman attackman Ryan Kudlek (Oceanside, N.Y.), who amassed 32 points (25 G, 7 A) and 21 ground balls this year.
