ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 16, 2009) –
The United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association released its
most recent Division II men’s poll on Monday, and Molloy
College jumped up three notches this week to No. 6. In the LAXnews
ledger, the Lions went from sixth to fifth. This comes after Molloy
topped Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon by a
final score of 16-3 in Manchester, N.H.
New York Institute of Technology, which is currently sporting a
4-0 ledger, remains the best team in the country. The Bears are
coming off of an 11-4 win on the road against Colorado College on
Saturday. Le Moyne College held onto the second spot for another
week after defeating fifth-ranked Mercyhurst College, 11-5, to go
to 3-0 on the year. C.W. Post notched its sixth win (6-0) of the
campaign with an 18-1 rout of St. Michael’s College. The
Pioneers continue to be third in the USILA tally.
Merrimack went from a previous ranking of sixth to fourth this
week. The Warriors put away then seventh-ranked Dowling College by
a final score of 11-8 to begin their 2009 season. They also
flip-flopped positions in the ledger with the Lakers of Mercyhurst,
who received 56 points, and are 2-1 overall. After Molloy is
Limestone College. The Saints are making their first appearance in
the poll. They beat the previously eighth-ranked Lions of Mars Hill
College, 12-11, on Saturday to hand them their first loss of the
year.
As Dowling came in eighth, Bentley College and Adelphi University
were tied for ninth to round out this week’s tally. The
Falcons pulled off an 11-10 edging of the Panthers, who were then
slotted fifth in the poll. However, the loss caused AU to drop four
notches.
Head Coach Joe Catalanotti and the Lions return to action tomorrow
when they open up their Spring Break trip in Belmont, Calif.
against Notre Dame De Namur University. Faceoff is scheduled for 7
p.m. EST/4 p.m. PST.
