ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Mar. 2, 2009) –
Very recently, LAXnews issued its Division II tally for men’s
lacrosse, and Molloy College jumped two spots this week to No. 6.
Meanwhile, in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse
Association poll, the Lions were picked ninth for the second
straight week. Defending national champion New York Institute of
Technology remains atop both ledgers following its 19-8 win over
St. Anselm on Sunday.
Le Moyne College continues its tenure at the second position. The
Dolphins opened up the 2009 season with a 15-4 win versus then
fourth-ranked Dowling College. C.W. Post is still in third after
its 21-3 overpowering of Assumption College on Saturday. The
Pioneers are now 3-0 on the year. Merrimack College also moved up
two notches to No. 4. The Warriors have not started the season yet,
but will kick things off on March 14 versus Dowling. The fifth spot
belongs to Mercyhurst College. The Lakers edged Wingate University,
9-6, on Sunday.
Following Molloy is Dowling and Adelphi University, which each
dropped three notches this week to seventh and eighth in the
country, respectively. After winning its first two games, the
Panthers fell to the Division III Tigers of Rochester Institute of
Technology in a heartbreaking 12-11 decision on Saturday. Saint Leo
University and Limestone College round out the Top-10 with a 1-1
mark. Both teams had their games washed out this week due to
rain.
Head Coach Joe Catalanotti and the Lions open up the 2009 campaign
this Sunday when they host the Greyhounds of Assumption College at
the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The
opening face-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. If you are unable to make
