GALANTE WINS 2009 NCAA DIVISION II STATISTICAL TITLE FOR ASSISTS PER GAME

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jun. 26, 2009) - This week, senior midfielder Keith Galante (Plainedge, N.Y.) of the Molloy College men's lacrosse team was proclaimed by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as the 2009 National Statistical Champion for assists per game in Division II. He dished out an assist average of 3.31 to claim the crown. For the Lions, this marks their second stat title in the spring season as junior midfielder Kristie Sosnowski (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) of women's lacrosse got it for draws.

During the course of his final season with the Lions, Galante has captured an assortment of honors. He was placed on the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America first-team. Moreover, Galante raked the prestigious Lt. Donald McLaughlin, Jr. Award from the USILA, which is put into the hands of the best player in the midfield in Division II. He also became Molloy's all-time leader in points and assists on April 15 against Pace University at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y.

Galante, who amassed 65 points on 22 goals and 43 assists in 2009, earned All-America accolades prior to the start of the season as he was named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America first-team. Galante also garnered All-East Coast Conference first-team kudos. He capped his career by being selected in the fourth round (34th overall pick) of the 2009 Major League Lacrosse Draft by the Long Island Lizards. And lastly, Galante finished fifth in the nation in points per game (5.0) and 60th in goals per game (1.90).

First-year head coach Eric Petrullo and the Lions will now look to improve on a 10-3 mark overall and a 3-3 ledger in East Coast Conference action from 2008.
