GALANTE DRAFTED BY LONG ISLAND IN MLL COLLEGIATE DRAFT

HOBOKEN, N.J. (May. 28, 2009) - Last night, senior midfielder Keith Galante (Plainedge, N.Y.) was a fourth-round selection of the Long Island Lizards in the 2009 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, which was held on the campus of Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. He was announced as the 34th overall pick, and is the first player from Molloy College to be drafted into the MLL. Last week, Galante was honored as the recipient of the Lt. Donald McLaughlin, Jr. Award, which is given to the top midfielder in Division II.

Galante ended his senior season by being named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America First-Team. He was dubbed an All-East Coast Conference first-team all-star as well. Prior to the start of the year, Galante received Preseason All-America first-team accolades from Inside Lacrosse. For the year, he amassed a team-leading 65 points on 22 goals and 43 assists. He also finished as the national statistical champion in assists per game with an average of 3.31.

For his career, Galante raked 85 goals and 105 assists for 190 points. With that, he became the all-time leader for the Lions in points and assists. Galante accomplished both these feats versus Pace University on April 15. He also slotted himself atop the Molloy leader board in shots (331) and shots on goal (171). Plus, Galante is second in goals and shots on goal per game (3.29), third in man-up goals (15), fourth in assists per game, (2.02), fifth in points per game (3.65) and sixth in shots per game (6.37).

Major League Lacrosse was successfully started in 2001, and consists of 10 squads - Boston Cannons, Long Island Lizards, New Jersey Pride, Philadelphia Barrage, Rochester Rattlers, Washington Bayhawks, Chicago Machine, Denver Outlaws, Los Angeles Riptide and San Francisco Dragons.
