MEN’S LACROSSE PICKED SIXTH IN ECC PRESEASON POLL

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Feb. 17, 2009) – On Tuesday afternoon, the Molloy College men’s lacrosse team was chosen to place sixth in the East Coast Conference Preseason Coaches’ tally. The Lions come off a 5-8 year with a 1-5 mark in the league. The team scored 135 tallies in all, an average of 10.39 goals per game.

Leading the Lions attack will be senior midfielder Keith Galante (Plainedge, N.Y.). Last year, Galante had 27 goals and 26 assists for a total of 53 points in all. He led the team in all three offensive categories and earned 29 ground balls.

Joining Galante on the far side of the field is sophomore Ryan Bohlert (East Patchogue, N.Y.). During his freshman campaign, Bohlert led all newcomers with 12 goals. He also tallied 13 points in 13 games played.

Between the pipes, senior goaltender Robert Humann (Hicksville, N.Y.) returns for his senior season. He finished last season with 134 saves for a percentage of .554. He allowed 9.44 goals per game en-route to five victories on the season.

Overall in the ECC, defending national champion New York Institute of Technology was picked to finish first with six first place votes and 46 points. Behind NYIT was C.W. Post, who accrued 42 points and one first place vote. Mercyhurst College was third with 36 points. Dowling College was selected fourth with 25 points. Adelphi University followed with 24 points with Molloy College and Dominican College rounding out the group in sixth and seventh place, respectively.

Molloy starts the 2009 season against Assumption College on March 8 at the Dean G. Skelos Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, N.Y. The opening faceoff will take place at 1 p.m.
