MEN’S LACROSSE SOARS PAST BRIARCLIFFE IN SEASON OPENER

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Juniors Keith Galante (Plainedge, NY) and Jeffrey Flandina (West Islip, NY) each scored three goals, while Galante added five assists in the 15-2 victory over the Seahawks of Briarcliffe College on February 26 at John A. Darcy Field. The non-conference game was the season opener for both teams.

Molloy wasted no time recording their first goal of the 2008 season as Galante scored as just over a minute came off the clock. Flandina recorded the next two goals for the Lions and junior Mike Salisbury (Freeport, NY) notched his first goal of the season to give Molloy the 4-0 advantage. Freshman Ryan Bohlert (East Patchogue, NY) capped off the first quarter with his first collegiate goal and extended the Lions lead to five. Freshman Brandon Peyer (Wiliston Park, NY) placed two of the Lions four goals on the scoreboard in the second quarter. Briarcliffe's Connor Carr scored a goal 20 seconds prior to halftime but Molloy still held the 9-1 edge.

Galante, Salisbury, Bohlert, senior Peter Jannello (North Massapequa, NY) and freshman John Scorcia (Franklin Square, NY) scored the five Lions goals during the third and Molloy's defense kept the Seahawks off the scoreboard. Briarcliffe scored their second with just over four minutes left in the game but the Lions were not done scoring themselves as junior Peter Bonelli (Commack, NY)placed the last goal between the pipes to give Molloy the 15-2 victory.

Galante led the team with eight points (3 goals; 5 assists) and Salisbury racked up five points (2 goals; 3 assists). Flandina finished the game with three goals, while Peyer and Bohlert each had two goals. Senior Bob Humann (Hicksville, NY), freshman Glenn Greubel (North Merrick, NY) and senior Tim Pressler (East Meadow, NY) all saw time between the pipes and combined for five saves.

The Lions will host Assumption College on Saturday, March 1 for a non-conference game. The first face-off will begin at 1:00 PM on the John A. Darcy Field at the Dean Skelos Sports Complex.
