MEN’S BASKETBALL SELECTED SIXTH IN ECC PRESEASON POLL

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Nov. 6, 2009) - The East Coast Conference released its preseason poll on Wednesday for men's basketball, and Molloy College was picked sixth by the league's coaches. The Lions, who recorded a mark of 8-20 overall and a ledger of 7-11 against league opposition last season, amassed a total of 26 points in the tally. After reaching the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2008-09, C.W. Post was dubbed the favorite to re-capture the title. The Pioneers earned three first-place votes, and 57 points.

Although they had the same amount of first-place nods, University of Bridgeport compiled 56 points, which was good for second in the tally. Dowling was positioned third with 53 points. Senior guard David Seagers (Bronx, N.Y.) received ECC Preseason Player of the Year honors in the process. Queens College amassed 36 points for fourth place. The Knights struggled on the court last year with their overall mark of 10-18. Five points up on Molloy, New York Institute of Technology was slotted in at No. 5.

Head Coach Charles Marquardt and the Lions open up the new season on November 15 when they start a three-game homestand against University of New Haven at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
