FOUR-BAGGER: MANNING SELECTED AS ECC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Jan. 13, 2009) - For the fourth time this season, freshman guard Chris Manning (Queens, N.Y.) was dubbed the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week. He was awarded on Monday for his efforts in the last two Molloy contests, which came against second-ranked C.W. Post and Queens College on Wednesday and Saturday evening, respectively.
For the week, Manning averaged 9.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. In the process, he was 7-for-9 (77.0 percent) from the field and 5-for-10 (50.0 percent) from the charity stripe. Manning also dished off seven assists, swiped three steals and swatted one block as the Lions went 1-1 during the two contests.
Versus the nationally-recognized Pioneers, he picked up eight points, five assists and one steal. Then, in the game against the Knights, Manning had a hot hand as he collected 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in 24 minutes of action.
Overall, in 2008-09, Manning has registered 7.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest. He has also passed 66 assists and taken away 63 steals. In addition, Manning is ranked No. 2 in the nation in steals per game with an average of 3.8.
Head Coach Charlie Marquardt and his squad return to the court this Wednesday when Molloy takes on St. Thomas Aquinas College in an ECC match-up at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
