MEN’S BASKETBALL HOSTS SUCCESSFUL CLINIC AND COMMUNITY DAY

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Jan. 20, 2009) - Head Coach Charlie Marquardt (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) and the Molloy College men's basketball team put together a clinic for the St. Agnes CYO basketball squad on Monday in addition to celebrating its Community Day. Afterwards, the kids were able to sit down and watch the Lions face Post University at Quealy Gymnasium.

During the clinic, Marquardt, his staff and his players instructed the learners on how to improve their ball handling, defense, shooting and lay-ups. They also focused on telling the kids what is vital off of the court such as the importance of schoolwork. Then, as a gift, Molloy handed them copies of its 2008-09 men's basketball media guide as well as pocket schedules.

"The clinic was a success," said Marquardt. "We were very happy to bring in the St. Agnes CYO team for the day. Over the course of the morning, we worked with them on the fundamentals of basketball and taught them about life skills. I also want to thank Mike Prendergast of Rockville Centre for helping us put together a great Community Day."

Community Day was also stretched to the pre-game introductions of the Molloy/Post contest as Tom Weiss, who is a member of a local boys' choir, sang a rendition of the national anthem. At halftime, the kids from St. Agnes took the court again and played a 10-minute intrasquad game.
