FALZONE GRABS 14th DOUBLE-DOUBLE OF SEASON
OAKDALE, NY- Despite senior Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, NY) pulling down his fourteenth double-double of the season, the Molloy College men's basketball team fell to the Golden Lions of Dowling College on January 30. The 74-65 East Coast Conference loss drops the Lions to 8-10 overall and 6-6 in the conference, while the Golden Lions improve to 4-14 and 4-8.
Dowling jumped out to an early 16-9 lead but Molloy answered with back-to-back baskets to cut their deficit to three (16-13). The Golden Lions went ahead again and took their biggest lead of the first (12 points) with just over two minutes left in the half. The Lions and Golden Lions traded baskets in the final minutes and Molloy went into halftime with the 43-32 disadvantage.
Six minutes into the second half, Falzone and junior Michael Johnson (Jamaica, NY) each recorded lay-ups and made it a three point game (47-44) but Dowling scored the next nine points for the 56-44 cushion with 11:24 left in the game. Two free throws by senior Glenn Martin (Brooklyn, NY) brought Molloy to within five (62-57) as 4:48 remained but that would be the closest the Lions would come as they fell 74-65 at the buzzer.
Falzone led the Lions with 16 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks, while freshman Brian Hutchinson (Elmont, NY) notched 15 points and eight rebounds. Martin finished with 11 points and senior Mark Pierre (St. Georges, Grenada) added 10 points and six rebounds.
The Lions return home to take on C.W. Post on Saturday, February 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
