FALZONE NOTCHES CAREER HIGH 31 POINTS AS MENS BASKETBALL FALLS SHORT TO NYIT
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Senior Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, NY) recorded a career high 31 points as the Molloy College men's basketball team fell to the Bears of NYIT on January 23. Falzone notched his previous career high of 30 points this past Saturday against STAC. The Lions fall to 8-8 overall and 6-4 in the ECC, while the Bears improve to 11-4 and 8-2.
A jumper by sophomore Girard Fitts (Uniondale, NY) started a 9-3 opening run for the Lions. But the Bears answered back with a 10-4 run to even the score at 13. NYIT would take the lead after two free throws by Kirk Stewart and went ahead by nine points (27-18) with 11 minutes left in the first half. For the remainder of the half, the Bears kept their distance from the Lions and went into the locker room at halftime with the 52-46 lead.
Four straight points by senior Glenn Martin (Brooklyn, NY) and a three pointer by junior Carl Palmer (Brooklyn, NY) cut Molloy's deficit to one (54-53) in the first three minutes of play. The Bears did not let the Lions take the advantage and with 6:51 left in the game, they held a 10 point edge (80-70). Molloy kept pressuring the Bears and eventually brought their disadvantage to two (94-92) after a lay-up by Falzone. But NYIT held onto the victory after making all four of their foul shots in the end as Molloy was only able to place two more points on the board.
Falzone led all players with 31 points and 12 rebounds. Martin finished the game with 25 points, five rebounds and four assists, while junior Michael Johnson (Jamaica, NY) posted 12 points, six assists and four steals.
The Lions remain home to host Adelphi University on Saturday, January 26. The ECC game will begin at 3:00 PM.
