MENS BASKETBALL ENDS SEASON IN ECC QUARTERFINALS
GARDEN CITY, NY- Senior Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, NY) picked up his last double-double of his career as the Molloy College men's basketball team fell to the Panther's of Adelphi University on March 5 in the East Coast Conference quarterfinals. The Lions finish their season with a 10-18 overall record, while the Panthers advance to the ECC semifinals on Saturday, March 8.
The Panthers began the game strong and would hold the 15-2 advantage midway through the first. Back-to-back baskets by junior Michael Johnson (Jamaica, NY) cut the Lions deficit to nine (22-13) with 4:09 left. In the final minutes of the half, Molloy and Adelphi traded baskets and the Panthers headed into the locker room with a 25-15 cushion.
Four minutes into the second half, senior Glenn Martin's (Brooklyn, NY) jumper brought the Lions to within seven (32-25). Five straight points by freshman Brian Hutchinson (Elmont, NY) and two free throws by Martin saw Molloy with only a two point disadvantage (43-41) with 6:18 left on the clock. The Panthers answered with a 9-0 run to bring their lead back to eleven (52-41). The Lions made another attempt to gain the advantage but would fall short in the end (60-55) and have their season come to an end.
Falzone led Molloy with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Martin had 14 points. Hutchinson pitched in with 11 points and sophomore Girard Fitts (Uniondale, NY) recorded seven points.
