FALZONE, PIERRE AND MARTIN SCORE IN DOUBLE DIGITS BUT MEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS ON SENIOR NIGHT

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Seniors Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, NY), Mark Pierre (St. Georges, Grenada) and Glenn Martin (Brooklyn, NY) all posted double-digit points but the Molloy College men's basketball team fell to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College on February 27 at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions fall to 9-17 overall and 7-12 in the ECC, while the Spartans improve to 15-11 and 11-8.

The Lions cruised into an early 12-5 lead and with 7:04 left in the first, Molloy held the ten point advantage (19-9) after two free throws by Martin. However, STAC answered with a 7-0 run and cut their deficit to three (19-16). STAC's Chris Williams tied the game at 21 after two baskets from the line but Molloy entered intermission with the one point edge (27-26).

STAC opened the second half with a basket from beyond the arc to take the lead (29-27). The Lions and the Spartans battled back and forth for control of the game and Molloy would take command with an 11 point edge (52-39) with 5:04 left on the clock. STAC did not give up and went on a 15-2 run to tie the game at 54 with 2:59 ticks remaining on the scoreboard. A jumper by STAC's Williams gave the Spartans a one point lead that they would not relinquish for the last two minutes of the game.

Falzone led the Lions with a double-double (18 points; 11 rebounds) and Pierre finished the night with 14 points and five rebounds. Martin added 10 points and six rebounds, while seniors Karim McKenzie (Brooklyn, NY) and Kris Cabrera (Manhattan, NY) each had six points.

The Lions end their regular season on the road at NYIT on Saturday, March 1. The ECC game is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
