FALZONE GRABS A DOUBLE-DOUBLE AS MENS BASKETBALL FALLS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION
WATERBURY, CT- Senior Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, NY) picked up a double-double but it was not enough as the Molloy College men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game to the Eagles of Post University on February 23. The 82-71 loss drops the Lions record to 9-16, as the Eagles improve to 14-12.
Five minutes into the game, Molloy took a nine point lead (15-6) after a Falzone basket from beyond the arc. Post cut their deficit to five (21-16) but the Lions answered with a 9-0 run to go up by 14 (30-16). Molloy kept their distance from the Eagles and headed into intermission with the 40-30 advantage.
Post opened up strong as they scored nine straight points to make it a one point game (42-41). But with 15 minutes left, Falzone converted a three point play and gave the Lions a seven point edge (50-43). As 12:34 remained on the clock, Post tied the game at 52 and three minutes later, they were up by six points (61-55). Molloy saw their disadvantage slip to 10 (67-57) with 6:42 ticks on the clock. The Lions were unable to fully recover in the final six minutes and fell, 82-71.
Falzone led all players with 24 points and 14 rebounds, while senior Glenn Martin (Brooklyn, NY) pitched in with 20 points. Freshman Brian Hutchinson (Elmont, NY) added 11 points, while sophomore Girard Fitts (Uniondale, NY) contributed 10 points.
The Lions return to Long Island for their last home game of the 2007-08 season. They will host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30 PM.
