MEN’S BASKETBALL SNAPS NINE GAME LOSING STREAK WITH VICTORY OVER CONCORDIA

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Seniors Glenn Martin (Brooklyn, NY) and Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, NY) each picked up 25 points to help the Molloy College men's basketball out of their nine game losing slump with a 80-65 win over the Clippers on Concordia College on February 20 at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions now hold a 9-15 overall record and a 7-11 East Coast Conference record, while Concordia falls to 10-15 and 9-9.

With the game tied at 11, a three point play by Falzone began a 10-3 run for the Lions and they took a seven point edge (21-14) halfway through the first. Three minutes later, Martin knocked down two free throws to extend Molloy's lead to 13 (31-18). A lay-up by Falzone with just under five minutes left in the first, gave the Lions their biggest advantage of the half (39-22). Molloy entered the locker room at intermission with a 48-35 advantage.

Five minutes into the second, the Clippers made it a 10 point game (56-46) off a lay-up by Torrance McGill. However, this would be the closest the Lions would allow Concordia to get for the remainder of the game. A trifecta by sophomore Girard Fitts (Uniondale, NY) at the 7:14 minute mark, gave Molloy their biggest lead of the game (21 points). The Lions kept the Clippers at bay for the next seven minutes as they came away with the 80-65 East Coast Conference victory.

Falzone and Martin led all players with 25 points, while Falzone added 10 rebounds and Martin pitched in with seven rebounds and four assists. Fitts finished the night with 11 points and four steals and senior Mark Pierre (St. Georges, Grenada) contributed nine points and five rebounds.

The Lions will honor their seniors prior to the game on Wednesday, February 20 against St. Thomas Aquinas College. The ECC game will begin at 7:30 PM in Quealy Gymnasium.
