NEW HAVEN DEFEATS MEN’S BASKETBALL IN EAST COAST CONFERENCE ACTION

WEST HAVEN, CT- The Molloy College men's basketball dropped an East Coast Conference game to the Chargers of the University of New Haven on February 9 at Chargers Gymnasium. With the conference loss, the Lions fall to 8-13 overall and 6-9 in the conference, while New Haven improves to 10-12 and 6-9.

New Haven opened the game strong and held the 14-4 lead after four minutes of play. The Lions fought back and cut their deficit to five after a lay-up by senior Glenn Martin (Brooklyn, NY) with 12:47 left in the half. A lay-up by senior Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, NY) made it a four point game (22-18) but New Haven answered back with a 12-2 run (34-20). Molloy entered the locker room at halftime with a nine point drawback (37-28).

A lay-up by Falzone and two free throws by Martin cut the Lions deficit to five (37-32). However, six points by New Haven's Tetrick Stonar gave the Chargers a 43-32 advantage. New Haven held the 12 point lead (50-38) but a put back by Falzone brought the Lions back to a 10 point disadvantage (50-40). However, midway through the second, New Haven held a commanding edge (58-40). Unfortunately, Molloy would be unable to comeback from their deficit and fell 81-55.

Falzone picked up another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Martin led the Lions with 16 points and freshman Brian Hutchinson (Elmont, NY) recorded 11 points.

The Lions will host Queens College on Wednesday, February 13 at 7:30 PM.
