FALZONE RECORDS DOUBLE-DOUBLE DURING 82-75 LOSS TO NOVA SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL- Senior Vincent Falzone (Middle Village, NY) recorded his eighth double-double of the season as the Molloy College men's basketball team dropped to the Sharks of Nova Southeastern University in the Nova Southeastern University Holiday Classic on December 28. The Lions fall to 6-5 on the season, while the Sharks improve to 6-4.
The game was tied eight different times during the first eight minutes of the first half. However, Nova Southeastern scored eight unanswered points to hold the 25-17 lead at the midpoint of the first. Two free throws apiece by Falzone and senior Mark Pierre (St. Georges, Grenada) cut the Lions deficit to four (25-21). With five minutes left in the first, senior Karim McKenzie (Brooklyn, NY) notched two free throws, while the Sharks made only one of two free throws and Molloy had a two point disadvantage. On the next play, senior Kris Cabrera (Manhattan, NY) nailed two free throws to even the score at 34. But in the final three minutes, Nova Southeastern outscored the Lions, 12-5 and held the 46-39 halftime advantage.
Molloy scored the first five points of the second half and made it a two point game (46-44). The Sharks answered back with a 9-2 run to jump out to the 55-46 advantage. Halfway through the second, Pierre's lay-up brought the Lions to within two (61-59). However, Nova Southeastern surged ahead again and took a nine point lead (71-62) as 6:10 remained on the clock. Molloy cut their deficit to four (77-73) after a lay-up by sophomore Girard Fitts (Uniondale, NY) but the Lions ran out of time as they took the 82-75 non-conference loss.
Falzone led the Lions with 22 points and 16 rebounds, while senior Glenn Martin (Brooklyn, NY) contributed 18 points and seven rebounds. Fitts pitched in with 14 points and three steals, while Pierre recorded 11 points and five rebounds.
The Lions will face Barry University on day two of the Nova Southeastern University Holiday Classic on December 29. The game is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
