BASEBALL SLOTTED EIGHTH IN NCBWA EAST PRESEASON CENSUS
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. On Tuesday, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association issued its preseason polls, and Molloy College was positioned eighth in the East Region with 28 points. Last season, the Lions had an overall record of 26-19 and an East Coast Conference mark of 16-8. They also reached the second round of the league tournament. Franklin Pierce University led the group with 68 points and five first-place nods. Adelphi University and Dowling College were tied for second with 55 points and a first-place vote.
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. On Monday, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association sent out the selections for its Division II Preseason All-America Team, and senior hurler Steven Stewart and senior outfielder T.J. Greig were both tabbed as honorable mentions. In 2009, Stewart was named to the All-East Coast Conference first-team, while Greig was named the leagues player of the year. He also garnered NCBWA All-East Region first-team accolades.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. Head Coach Joe Fucarino of the Molloy College baseball team has publicized the signing of three players to National Letters of Intent for the 2011 season during the National Collegiate Athletic Associations early signing period. Pitcher Max Schonfeld as well as catchers Louis Mazzella and Daniel Flanick have signed the dotted line on a scholarship to play for the Lions starting next fall.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The New York Collegiate Baseball League recently publicized its Top-25 poll of professional prospects via its games last summer, and junior first baseman Robert LaRusso of Molloy College was slotted 24th on that ledger. Last year, LaRusso batted .313 with seven homers and 36 RBI for the Lions. He also notched a team-best slugging percentage of .517. For his efforts, the Bayside native was selected to the All-East Coast Conference third-team.

WANTAGH, N.Y. The Molloy College baseball, softball and womens lacrosse teams participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer five-mile walk last Sunday at Jones Beach in Wantagh, N.Y. The American Cancer Society puts this event together annually to help for raising awareness and funds for a great cause. As for "Making Strides", the walk has described the amazing progress everyone is making to put an end to the severe disease.

Last season, Molloy registered an overall record of 26-19 and an East Coast Conference mark of 16-8, which was second-best in the league. CLEVELAND, OHIO Last week, the Athletic Directors Association announced its recipients of the 2008-09 Academic Achievement Award for Division II, and Molloy College had 29 of its student-athletes recognized out of a total of 4,020 across 115 institutions. In order to obtain this honor, the student-athlete had to achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better. They also needed to attend the institution for at least two years, and be a member of an intercollegiate team during his or her previous academic year.

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - Senior infielder Patrick Walsh from Molloy College was picked as the East Coast Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Thursday by the Faculty Athletic Representative from each institution in the league. He was handed the honor for his work on the diamond and inside the classroom. Walsh, who graduated with a degree in Mathematics Education, posted a grade-point average of 3.79, and earned All-ECC first-team recognition.

Greig of Molloy College was tabbed as a first-team all-star. He will now be placed on the national ballot, and voted upon for All-America recognition. For Greig, this marks his second post-season accolade of the year after being chosen as the East Coast Conference Player of the Year.
