LARUSSO RANKED 24TH IN 2009 NYCBL TOP-25 PRO-PROSPECT TALLY

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The New York Collegiate Baseball League recently publicized its Top-25 poll of professional prospects via its games last summer, and junior first baseman Robert LaRusso of Molloy College was slotted 24th on that ledger. Last year, LaRusso batted .313 with seven homers and 36 RBI for the Lions. He also notched a team-best slugging percentage of .517. For his efforts, the Bayside native was selected to the All-East Coast Conference third-team.



WANTAGH, N.Y. – The Molloy College baseball, softball and women’s lacrosse teams participated in the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” five-mile walk last Sunday at Jones Beach in Wantagh, N.Y. The American Cancer Society puts this event together annually to help for raising awareness and funds for a great cause. As for "Making Strides", the walk has described the amazing progress everyone is making to put an end to the severe disease.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Head Coach Joe Fucarino recently announced the fall schedule for the Molloy College baseball team, and the Lions will open up their exhibition slate this Saturday afternoon at Suffolk West Community College. Last season, Molloy registered an overall record of 26-19 and an East Coast Conference mark of 16-8, which was second-best in the league. Moreover, the Lions capped off the year with ECC Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year accolades in addition to All-Region recognition.

CLEVELAND, OHIO – Last week, the Athletic Directors’ Association announced its recipients of the 2008-09 Academic Achievement Award for Division II, and Molloy College had 29 of its student-athletes recognized out of a total of 4,020 across 115 institutions. In order to obtain this honor, the student-athlete had to achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better. They also needed to attend the institution for at least two years, and be a member of an intercollegiate team during his or her previous academic year.

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. - Senior infielder Patrick Walsh from Molloy College was picked as the East Coast Conference Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Thursday by the Faculty Athletic Representative from each institution in the league. He was handed the honor for his work on the diamond and inside the classroom. Walsh, who graduated with a degree in Mathematics Education, posted a grade-point average of 3.79, and earned All-ECC first-team recognition.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its All-East Region squad on Friday, and two players from Molloy College were selected. Junior outfielder T.J. Greig was picked to the first-team, while senior infielder Patrick Walsh was chosen as a second-team all-star. For Greig, this marks his fourth postseason honor, while Walsh earns his second – his first being an All-East Coast Conference first-team nod.

Greig of Molloy College was picked to the second-team. He garners the honor following a year that saw him bat .364 with five homers and 33 RBI. As a result, Greig was selected as the East Coast Conference Player of the Year and a Daktronics All-Northeast Region first-teamer.

Greig of Molloy College was tabbed as a first-team all-star. He will now be placed on the national ballot, and voted upon for All-America recognition. For Greig, this marks his second post-season accolade of the year after being chosen as the East Coast Conference Player of the Year.

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Freshman right-hander Justin Jorgensen struck out a game-best seven hitters on Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as the No. 2 seed Molloy College baseball team lost to No. 4 seed Dowling College by a final of 4-2 at Bonomo Memorial Field on the campus of Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. He also gave up four hits, four walks and three earned runs in the defeat, which dropped him to a ledger of 7-4 in his rookie year.

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - Sophomore outfielder Robert LaRusso notched a pair of RBI on Friday afternoon, but it did not get the job done as the second-seeded Molloy College baseball team lost to third-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas College by a 10-3 count in an East Coast Conference Championship game at Lions’ Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the defeat, the Lions fell to 26-18 overall. As for the Spartans, they improved to a ledger of 25-21 on the year. STAC has also won five straight and seven of its last eight contests.

Head Coach Joe Fucarino won the coach of the year award, while junior outfielder T.J. Greig received player of the year accolades, and freshman outfielder Carmine Pellechia garnered rookie of the year kudos. In the process, five other Lions were named to the all-conference team.
