ROCHESTER, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2009) - The New York Collegiate Baseball League recently publicized its Top-25 poll of professional prospects via its games last summer, and junior first baseman Robert LaRusso (Bayside, N.Y.) of Molloy College was slotted 24th on that ledger. Last year, LaRusso batted .313 with seven homers and 36 RBI for the Lions. He also notched a team-best slugging percentage of .517. For his efforts, the Bayside native was selected to the All-East Coast Conference third-team.
In the list, LaRusso was listed as having raw speed, size and power with good arm strength. In the NYCBL, he hit .243 with three long balls and 19 ribbies. Joining LaRusso from the ECC on this poll was junior first baseman Vincent Malzahn (Sparrowbush, N.Y.) from STAC.
Head Coach Joe Fucarino and his squad open up the 2010 campaign on February 26 when Molloy travels to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Ripken Experience. The Lions will begin play with a doubleheader against the Eagles of Post University. First pitch for Game One is scheduled for 10 a.m.
