FONTANA FLIRTS WITH NO-HITTER AS BASEBALL BESTS QUEENS, 12-2

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2009) –
On Tuesday, freshman left-hander Chuck Fontana (Staten
Island, N.Y.) took a no-hitter into the top of the ninth,
while the offense provided a pair of three-run shots to lead the
Molloy College baseball team to a 12-2 victory versus Queens
College at Lions’ Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the
result, the Lions put their win streak at five games, and went to
24-15 overall. They are also 15-6 in East Coast Conference clashes.
As for the Knights, they are now 6-20 and 5-15 against league
opposition.
Molloy recorded a quick tally in Bottom-1 on an RBI single through
the right side by junior outfielder T.J. Greig (Staten
Island, N.Y.). Five innings later, he continued his hot
play with a three-run home run to right field. Senior first baseman
Keith Kenny (Hicksville, N.Y.) got home three with
his shot to right as well. In Bottom-8, the Lions put the contest
well out of reach with a five-spot to go ahead 12-0. Senior
infielders Peter Loeb (College Point, N.Y.) and
Patrick Walsh (Bellerose, N.Y.) hit a two-RBI
single and a sacrifice fly, respectively.
Aside from almost tossing a no-hitter, Fontana surrendered just two
hits, two runs and one walk, while striking out six in 8.1 innings
of work. He went to 1-1 on the year with the win. Freshman lefty
Kyle Contino (Ozone Park, N.Y.) was hit with the
defeat for the Knights. He tossed six innings of 11-hit, seven-run
(four earned), two-walk ball. Contino also fanned two in the
process.
