Box Score vs. Felician - April 29, 2009

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. (Apr. 29, 2009) - Over the first two innings, the Molloy College baseball team ran off six runs en route to a 7-1 win versus Felician College on Wednesday afternoon at Lions' Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y. Sophomore outfielder Robert LaRusso (Bayside, N.Y.) recorded two RBI, while senior infielder Peter Loeb (College Point, N.Y.) and sophomore infielder Joseph Menendez (Washington Heights, N.Y.) raked an RBI single each. With the victory, the Lions extended their winning streak to six games.

Molloy (25-15) jumped out of the gate quick with a two-run effort in the bottom of the first. Freshman outfielder Carmine Pellechia (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored on a passed ball by Felician (23-22) sophomore hurler John Rose (Point Pleasant, N.J.). The other run came on a two-out RBI triple to center by Menendez, which plated senior infielder Patrick Walsh (Bellmore, N.Y.). Walsh closed out 2-for-4 with three runs, while Menendez got one hit in three at-bats for a .333 average on the day.

The Lions posted a four-spot in the ensuing stanza to further the advantage to 6-0. LaRusso batted an RBI two-bagger to dead center. Walsh and Loeb both notched RBI on a fielder's choice and a single, respectively. In the top of the third, the Golden Falcons got a run across with a score on an RBI grounder by rookie infielder Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, Fla.). Molloy finished off the scoring in the latter of the seventh as Greig hit a double down to the left-field line to bring Walsh down 90 feet.

For the Lions, junior right-hander Peter Rieger-Maresca (Baldwin, N.Y.) notched his first win of the year after tossing six innings of three-hit, one-run, one-walk ball. He also sat down three in the process. In his collegiate debut, Rose was struck for seven hits, six runs and one walk, while striking out three in four innings of work. Junior Jeff Calabrese (Freehold, N.J.) and freshman Shane Junger (Waretown, N.J.) pitched scoreless relief appearances from the rubber for Felician, which snapped a two-game winning streak.

Head Coach Joe Fucarino and the Lions will now close out the 2009 campaign with a three-game series over the weekend against Dowling College. The set will commence on Saturday with a doubleheader at Golden Lions' Field in Brookhaven, N.Y. First pitch for Game One is slated for noon.
