Box Score vs. Concordia - April 19, 2009
BRONXVILLE, N.Y. (Apr. 19, 2009) – Tied
at 2-2 in the top of the 10th inning, the Molloy College baseball
team registered four RBI base knocks on Sunday to defeat East Coast
Conference foe Concordia College by a score of 6-2 at Clipper Field
in Bronxville, N.Y. With the victory, the Lions improved to an
overall mark of 20-15 and a league ledger of 11-6. They also took
the season series after splitting a doubleheader on Saturday. As
for the Clippers, they fell to 19-19-1 on the year and 10-7 in the
ECC.
Junior catcher Brian Benes (Omaha, Neb.) got home
sophomore outfielder Robert LaRusso (Bayside,
N.Y.). He singled through the left side in his at-bat.
Senior shortstop Patrick Walsh (Bellerose, N.Y.)
followed with a single through the side as well. He plated senior
pinch runner Steven Rodriguez (Corona, N.Y.) on
the play. Senior first baseman Keith Kenny (Hicksville,
N.Y.) drove a single into right field for an RBI. Senior
second baseman Peter Loeb (College Point, N.Y.)
capped off the scoring by reaching on a fielder’s choice.
Concordia got on the board first in Bottom-1 with an RBI groundout
by sophomore second baseman/shortstop Mike Sciacchitano
(Wappinger, N.Y.). But, in the top of the second, Molloy
got that run back plus one to grab a 2-1 lead. Kenny accounted for
the scoring with a two-run double to center, which sent home Walsh
and junior outfielder T.J. Greig (Staten Island,
N.Y.) from first and second base, respectively. The
Clippers tied things up in Bottom-4 on an RBI single to left-center
field by junior outfielder Anthony Carnacchio (Rockaway,
N.Y.).
Both starting pitchers received no-decisions. Senior pitcher
Eric Williams (Stamford, Conn.) threw 6.1 innings
of nine-hit, six-strikeout, two-run, two-walk ball. Freshman
pitcher Daniel Pelan (East Meadow, N.Y.) received
his third win after yielding no runs and one walk in 2.2 innings of
work for the Lions. As for the Clippers, senior hurler
Robert Gorvetzian (Jackson Heights, N.Y.) went the
full nine, but sophomore pitcher Peter Denyssenko
(Larchmont, N.Y.) got the loss after allowing the four
runs in the 10th inning.
Head Coach Joe Fucarino and his squad return to the diamond this
Tuesday when Molloy closes out a short two-game road trip in
Orangeburg, N.Y. versus Central Athletic Collegiate Conference
opponent Dominican College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
