WALSH RECEIVES ECC PLAYER OF THE WEEK DISTINCTION

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (Apr. 27, 2009) – On
Monday afternoon, senior infielder Patrick Walsh (Bellmore,
N.Y.) earned his first award of the 2009 campaign as he
was picked as the East Coast Conference Player of the Week by the
league. Walsh earns the honor after sporting a week, which saw him
notch a team-high .778 batting average and three RBI. He also
posted a 1.000 slugging and an .857 on-base percentage.
During the opening game of a doubleheader against Mercy on
Saturday, Walsh batted 1-for-2 with a run and a trio of stolen
bases. Then, in the nightcap, he was a flawless 3-for-3 with two
runs and two walks. On Sunday, Walsh was 3-of-4 at the plate. He
also raked all of his RBI (three) with one at-bat, one run and one
walk.
For the year, he is hitting .248 with one homer and 18 RBI. Walsh
has also notched a .402 on-base percentage and 15 stolen bases,
while compiling 33 hits and 32 runs scored. Amongst NCAA Division
II, he is ranked 44th in base on balls per game with an average of
0.71. In the ECC, Walsh is positioned atop in walks, second in runs
scored and fifth in stolen bases.
Head Coach Joe Fucarino and the Lions return to action tomorrow
when they end their three-game homestand with a make-up of an
originally postponed game versus Queens College. First pitch is
