BASEBALL CLINCHES NO. 2 SEED IN ECC CHAMPIONSHIP; RECEIVES FIRST-ROUND BYE

CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (May. 6, 2009) - The East Coast Conference released the bracket for its 2009 Baseball Championship on Wednesday morning, and Molloy College secured the second seed as well as a first-round bye. The Lions will host the winner of today's play-in contest between No. 3 seed St. Thomas Aquinas College and No. 6 seed University of Bridgeport this Friday at Lions' Field in Rockville Centre, N.Y. First pitch is scheduled for noon.

During the year, Molloy notched a series win against St. Thomas Aquinas and Bridgeport. On April 4, the Lions split a double dip with the Spartans. MC won the opener in decisive fashion, 8-0, prior to losing to STAC in the nightcap by a 3-1 score. The next day, Molloy defeated St. Thomas Aquinas on the road, 5-2. The series with was the Lions and Purple Knights was stretched out across March and April. Molloy lost the first match, 5-2, but registered wins in the other two games by decisions of 6-3 and 9-0.

The other play-in game will see No. 4 seed Dowling College and No. 5 seed Concordia College. The winner of that match will move on to face top-seeded Adelphi University on Friday at 3 p.m. Over the regular season, the Clippers won two of three contests versus the Golden Lions. After going down in the opener by a final count of 6-0, Concordia responded with consecutive victories, 3-2, and 1-0. As for Adelphi, it took two of three from the Clippers (8-4, 2-4, 5-0), but was swept by the Golden Lions (2-4, 1-5, 2-8).
